Golden Pride of Cleburne High - Jesus Christ Superstar 1986 [A high school band in Texas, 1987]

If you want to realize that we have truly been the classic boiling frogs the last few decades, take a moment to look at this video from 1987. It's a simple video of a high school band from Cleburne Texas that won the state competition that year. Look at it, and imagine if this bunch of high school kids performed this today, after the socialist cultural revolution. If you are in a hurry and don't feel like watching the whole 10 minute show, skip ahead to the 2:20, 4:40, 6:10, and 7 minute marks. See if you can find the subliminal Christian theme. And keep in mind, this was in a public school, and it won a statewide award. To the best of my knowledge, no people of other faiths, or atheists were harmed in the making of program.

This is worth a minute or two, quite a wake up call as to what has happened in this country.

Can you imagine if this happened today? It probably would actually spark some sort of federal action. This is why every small battle in the war against American culture and free expression of faith is worth fighting.

And those kids even ate anything they pleased for lunch! With no chunky first lady scolding them.

Back in the 80s we had a minister teaching an elective class on religion.

Today even a simple candy cane will cause a school to swing into action to defend the revolution.

It is so depressingly different today. It makes the PC 90s seem quaint.

Kids must look at this and think it was another planet.

Yeah but you just committed a Hate Crime against all those by daring to publish it! Not to mention the intentional emotional distress that you inflicted on public school graduates of todays generation. You will be put on a list for perpetrating this despicable act of Bigotry, count on it.

Showing this to any high school kids you know is a fine idea. They need to see examples here and there of what free America was like. Then when a teacher tells them the Constitution bans them saying grace over lunch, or mentioning their religion in a valedictorian speech, they might remember things like this and know it’s ok to call it a lie.

Why,,, thank you! I would be a little hurt if they ever didn’t think I opposed Obama enough to include me.

In the late 90s, I was a very involved band parent with a son playing tuba and I assisted with the show, as well as fund-raising. One year, the show was music from Emerson, Lake, & Palmer with one of the pieces being “Jerusalem”, the traditional English hymn/anthem done in the ELP rock style. Not a word was said by anybody over the music or any symbolism but it was a suburban Oklahoma City school.

Since the “Jesus Christ, Superstar” music from Broadway has been so well accepted over the years, it might not be a problem but I doubt many band directors would be brave enough to find out for certain.

Up to at least 2010, our HS band played “Amazing Grace” during the moment of silence before football games.
