Brian Williams said on Saturday that he was stepping aside from the daily broadcast of NBCs Nightly News for the next several days, after admitting that he had misled the public about being on a helicopter that was forced down in Iraq.
In a memo to the NBC News staff, Mr. Williams said that Lester Holt, the anchor for Dateline, would step in as the network dealt with the issue.
In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions, Mr. Williams said in the two-paragraph memo.
Mr. Williams is both anchor and managing editor for NBC Nightly News.

Is he leaving to spend time with Rosie O’Donnell’s soon-to-be ex-wife? LOL
He can take a job at sister network MSNBC where when he lies, no one will be watching.
He’ll be at a liars recovery clinic to overcome his addiction to lying. It’s a disease and he deserves our pity. He’ll be back soon, once he’s over this rough spot.
Or he could be Al Sharpton’s body man.
Liberals live in a world of fantasy and they wind up believing it.
I say he’s tarnished and that NBC won’t be having him back. Their problem of getting rid of him is complicated by his just recently signed 5 year $10 million contract.
American Press = Paid Democrat Liars
What’s the frequency (of you lying), Brian?
Well I can’t blame him.
A mildly black man will take my place until the heat dies down.
I think he’ll be gone for good but NBC hasn’t fired him yet. Before all this started he had the highest ratings for weekday early evening broadcasts. I think nbc still hasn’t decided what to do with him yet. The week or so he’ll be gone will be to see what else crawls out of the woodwork and the network will decide after they think the majority of flak has been dispensed
Was that 10 mil per year for 5 years or 10 mil for the whole 5 years total?
The contract probably has an indemnification based on morals, but it is NBC. They might have waived lying as grounds for termination.
I guess that gives him time to do what he does best. Make up stuff. Maybe he’ll do an autobiography.
he will use this time off to defeat North Korean communism, bring peace to the middle east and who know what else
The ‘blood in the water’ has turned into a gushing artery.
He would have been better off not apologizing, and just letting the noise eventually go away, which it would have.
Funny how Dan Rather didn’t get such treatment right away, and he did something that was OUTRIGHT diabolical, trying to INFLUENCE a PRESIDENTIAL RACE with total LIES! They even ‘invented’ a dammed reward for him! LOL (has anyone else won it since?)
Maybe he’ll get the Congressional Medal of Dishonor for his little act of stolen valor.
