Target defends selling 'Fifty Shades' sex toys: Your safe word is 'bullseye'
Entertainment Weekly ^ | February 5, 2015 | James Hibberd

Attention Target shoppers, check out the display of bondage gear in aisle 12!

The nation’s second biggest general merchandise retailer is raising shoppers’ eyebrows – and possibly their wrists above their heads – by carrying a line of Fifty Shades of Grey sex gear. Items from “The Official Pleasure Collection” include the Fifty Shades Yours and Mine Vibrating Silicone Love Ring (“the silicone ring stretches to accommodate his girth,” the description assures) and the No Peeking Soft Twin Blindfold Set (“take it in turns to sink into submission”).

The pornification of America continues. Since Fifty is supposedly Mommy Porn then it is okay to sell the book at Costco and other retailers, marketed sex toys at Target, and a movie children can see accompanied by an adult.

I don’t think I have a problem with them selling them - I had a problem with them racking them right next to children’s toothbrushes and bath toys (there are some pics of Target’s poor location choices floating around the internet currently)

Hey, you used to have to go to seedy little stores in the worst parts of town to buy that stuff!

Uh...or so I've been told.

Biff and Buffy Playing S&M is, to be brutally frank, some of the funnier stuff I've ever seen but "Not in front of the children, dear" was actually pretty sound advice in a different, better world.

It was ... not a good choice.

Is it Fifty Shades Of Grey or Filthy Shades of Grey?

One of my silly pleasures is looking at the “nice lady” catalogs that show up in the mail periodically. They’re the ones filled with all those egg poachers and timers and throw rugs and garden decor. But what makes those catalogs silly is that they ALWAYS have vibrators... excuse me “personal massagers”. It’s always a blast to read their product description as they very carefully detail it’s great “massage” features. I first encountered them in the 70s, I hadn’t seen one in a while but at the beginning of the Christmas shopping season we got a couple of those catalogs, and they still have the vibrators.

Which is a long way of saying “ain’t nothing new about this”.

Ah yes, the same chain that refuses to let the Salvation Army kettles collect in front of their stores...........another piece of the puzzle is in place.

Every day there is less and less worth saving in this country.

As life imitates “art” (loosely defined), S&M is soon to become the “new” normal (definitely not for me).

Well it’s really about the people, not about the culture.

Throw the culture away. But save the people. That’s God’s quest and should be everyone’s.

Sin was never even about sin. It was about the devil.

lol When a I was a teen during the 90s, I went out with some friends to the nearest city where we’d always have to go for anything to do(we lived in the woods). One of them suggested going to the “head-shop”(don’t know why he referred to it as that).

We went to this place near downtown that looked as if you might not get out alive, and I was shocked at the stuff they were selling. They even had $5 ‘peep shows’. lol

I was never into the whole porn thing, so I thought it was more funny than anything else. I’m the only guy I know that has never been to a stripper club. Thinking back on it, the place was completely disgusting, especially the people that were in there. That was before the age of regular hand sanitizer use too! LOL (damn....)

From Breitbart:

WATCH: TROJAN CONDOM’S ‘FIFTY SHADES OF GREY’ AD CAMPAIGN

Fifty Shades of Grey set for release on Valentine’s Day, condom manufacturer Trojan decided to take advantage of the buzz by releasing a new ad campaign.

Titled 50 Shades of Pleasure, the video depicts a couple speaking with a relationship counselor and sharing their failed endeavor to spice up their love life by using the Fifty Shades book series.

I’m sure you know that vibrators and the vague/suggestive advertising of them is miles away from SM and bondage goodies. And I agree, S&M bondage ain’t nothin’ new. But, selling “equipment” in the grocery store (cucumbers, pepperoni, and cat toys excluded), or in what used to be called “the dime store” back in the day, is new - at least in my part of the world. Yup, anyone with a kinky imagination can collect a bucket load of ordinary stuff and make “equipment”. But we’re talking about the stuff marketed and labeled specifically for kinky sex, and displayed in the same store that sells diapers, colanders and Candy Land.

But it isn’t. That’s my point. For one thing it’s really not S&M stuff, it’s vibrators, lube, and blindfolds most of which you could already get at Target anyway. And “back in the day” (70s again) I remember seeing porn mags at the grocery store, right next to the tabloids. And of course they’re in those “normal” catalogs right next to the shower buddy. The only thing that’s really different about this is that thanks to 50 Shades (which, BTW, is pretty universally reviled in the kink community for doing it all wrong, especially the consent part) there’s now “name brand” stuff and they’re more upfront about it. It’s all been there, readily available, even in “regular” stores, for a long time.
