Idiots like this is why we end up with laws for everything.
Around here the HOA would be all over him.
The state of fruits and nuts.
Not a good idea. Heck I don’t even shoot my compound bow outside in a neighborhood backyard.
Just because you can doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
And apparently that isn't good enough for these do-gooders. They think your freedom to use your property ends if it's anywhere near their property.
Any decent Conservative is willing to accept some inconvenience or unpleasantness. I don't insist on my world being perfect and exactly the way I want it. What I do expect, is that FREEDOM and PROPERTY RIGHTS be respected.
The guy built a gun range? I say "Good on him".
“According to St. Petersburg Police, legally he’s allowed to do it.”
Hey neighbors ... here’s your TSS.
Raise a flag when you’re going to shoot ...
Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD do it. Oftentimes discretion is the better part of valor. First off, that’s just part of being a good neighbor and the concerns of these neighbor’s are valid. Second off, this will just force the legislature to pass a law prohibiting firing ranges on residential property and all those people who live on 100 acres of land and who can safely operate a personal range on their land won’t be able to do so. This dude isn’t doing any favors for those of us who support second amendment rights.
As long as he has it setup right, I wouldn’t have a big problem with it. Seems he’s at least friendly about it by telling folks before he plans on shooting.
The noise might be un-nerving at times though. Regarding the comment by the neighbor, if he has his range well setup with a good backstop, there will be no need to “hide” when he shoots. It WOULD be nice for everyone if he could legally and easily run suppressors on his firearms to cut down on the noise in a residential area. They can blame the idiot laws for that.
Because even Conservatives have an easy time finding reasons why -- in THIS case -- control just "makes sense".
PEOPLE -- you will never free yourself from the Collectivists until you become willing to accept the fact that some things will be annoying and you have to live with them. This guy isn't breaking the law, he hasn't hurt anyone, and he's using his own property.
When you place the chains on him, you are placing the chains on yourself.
This guy doesn’t even appear to own the property, just a renter from what I research.
Bullsh!!te...
They federally legislated tree climbing back in the '80's.
Insurance companies outlawed swing sets in 2000.
Bubble wrap mandates for kids, begin in 2016.
For adults in 2018.
Perhaps the neighborhood might want to be a bit more friendly to real gun businesses with real gun ranges or municipal ranges. I’ll bet that thought never crossed their little minds.
I do think that if the media wanted to project an accurate image of the dangers that they could have afforded an areal view/map, etc. As it is they don’t have to let facts get in the way.
IMO this guy is a fool and a bad neighbor.
I’m out in the country with a 75ft high hill behind the house.
I could build a gun range in my backyard without being a danger or a nuisance....but you can’t do that on a small lot in town.
It was a long while back but I don’t remember being that stupid when I was 21.
A local country club has a skeet range. This is a pretty high density area — 1/4 to 1/2 acre lots is about the average. They get away with it because they only use it on Sunday afternoon. All my life, I’ve been able to tell when it was Sunday afternoon by the pop, pop, pop.
Poor choice of backstop, I wouldn’t consider it a safe range with buildings that close. I think my first phone call would be to figure out who is insuring the property and notify them that someone is using the back yard as a shooting range. Pretty sure that no insurance company wants to have this covered under normal insurance, and would likely demand a proper rider for this activity be written and paid for.
I don’t have a problem with people setting up a range. But almost every time I’ve seen it done, it has been in a rural setting on a large property. This is just mickey moused and not very safe. I have had shots go wide and high. Unlikely with safe gun handling, but unlikely, to me, is still too high of a risk in a housing development.
After the first shot fired one or all of the neighbors will file a nuisance suit on the basis of sound. And it will be successful.
That is not being a good neighbor, not considerate. Why worry people like that when you don’t have to?
Just for that, his westbound neighbor should start using his new brass Trumpet to play Reveille at 5;27 am, the northbound neighbor across the street has a son newly fascinated with the drumming techniques of Keith Moon from The Who. Oh, and don’t forget Mrs. Fluger, who is very busy on her back porch developing perfumes for Incense sticks.
And Mrs. Jenkins the widow, who can’t wait to try her Grandma’s Chitterling recipe.
From the picture, I don’t really like the size of that backstop.
I’m pro-2a and don’t have a problem with a good range, but he can’t afford to screw up once.
Back in the day, other men and their kids would have joined in and used it as a recreational event - so many pansies and so few men these days. Makes one feel sorry for the newest crops of kids - they don't have a chance to know what their individual genders were intended for.
