John Thune: We’re not going to shut down Homeland Security in February over executive amnesty

In that case, I have no idea what the point of the “cromnibus” was. Remember that? That was Boehner’s compromise with Obama and Reid on spending that passed last month. It had two parts, one of which would fund the federal government except for Homeland Security through most of next year and the other of which would fund Homeland Security itself only through part of February. That was a concession to conservative anger over O’s executive amnesty. If Obama doesn’t suspend his amnesty before then, the theory went, the new GOP Congress will refuse to pass new funding for DHS next month, forcing a shutdown of (non-essential) personnel in that department and supposedly stopping Obama’s amnesty cold. Now here’s Thune saying that Congress needs to use the power of the purse to rein Obama in … while also insisting that they won’t shut down DHS after all, which I guess means the “cromnibus” was a big fat lie. What power does the purse have if you’re not willing to use it here?

If we can't get 'em in the Primary, they MUST know that we will take them out in the General.

A lot of whiners around here poop themselves if you threaten the general election.

I'm for it firing them at any point.

John Thune: a reasonable republican, a pragmatic republican, a common-sense republican. He’ll be praised now in the media...until they can destroy him. Fool.

Well, the plan is to send a bill that funds DHS but not the amnesty.

As the blog pimp ‘Allahpundit’ states himself after he finishes pushing the “shiny bauble” in the headline.

Make sure new members of Congress understand the fraud diversion that is coming!

Read them the following:

“There is a chilling development that you need to know about. And it’s not fantasy or conspiracy. The news is already circulating about how Boehner and McConnell are going to play their hand on Executive Amnesty.”

“If you are being told to vote for Boehner, you must know he is a ringleader of the Executive Amnesty fraud diversion now in preparation.”

“First, how do you excuse Boehner’s ramming through more than a trillion dollars of funding in a Lame Duck session rather than a simple stopgap measure until the new Congress is seated?”

“Second, will you vote for a ‘Border Security Bill’ that also continues to fund Executive Amnesty?”

“What Boehner is going to do is to introduce a ‘Border Security Bill’ that promises to control the border. But he is going to continue funding Executive Amnesty which will be buried in the Border Security Bill.”

“Boehner and his people will coach you, the new and returning members, to say that if you don’t fund Executive Amnesty, then Obama will veto the Border Security Bill.”

Here’s an example of how the fraud game will be played:

*********************************************
Rep X: “Well Mrs. Smith, I just wanted us to finally get some control of our borders and that was my priority. I didn’t want to see us lose out on a chance like that.”

Mrs. Smith: “Yes, but you voted to fund for all those millions to get ID Cards and SSNs, and federal benefits and..and .. they are illegally here! You are rewarding them!”

Rep X: “Well I agree it’s a concern, but given a veto by this president or at least trying to get some border control security, well I just had to get what I could get, but certainly your concern I won’t forget and I will strongly consider that when funding comes up again next time.”
*********************************************

You see how the game is played?

And lastly ask the incoming rep if he/she knows what happened to all the previous border security legislation that was passed?

IT WAS NEVER IMPLEMENTED!!!!!!!

These guys just don’t realize that an eleven percent congressional approval rating applies to them. Vote out all incumbents because they just don’t qualify as “representatives.”

And to think I once contributed to this guy’s campaign against Tom Daschle! What happens to these guys once they get elected? Is it the air or water in D.C.? The guy still sends me Christmas cards with pictures of his wife and kids, and he (claims) to be a Christian. I don’t know but something goes terribly wrong when people get to D.C. I can only guess term limits are the answer. One term and go home!!!! p>

Thune has turned out to be a big disappointment to us. We worked very hard on his election against Daschle and donated some big bucks. He’s heard from us many times. No mas.

Thune: RINO.

As an alternative to Daschle, you may argue he is an improvement.
I view them as two different sides of the same coin.

In the election, he ran as a conservative.
He governs as a RINO.

The only use for Homeland Security is to hassle legal American citizens ... it will not do anything about illegals who are known to be part of terrorist organizations.

Is Homeland Security a non-essential item??

A government shutdown MIGHT be harmful to the nation. Executive amnesty WILL be harmful to the nation.

It’s really an easy call. Fight executive amnesty and take the risk on a government shutdown. To do otherwise is to validate executive tyranny.

"Is Homeland Security a non-essential item??"

It's probably essential because of all the agencies it has swallowed.

That's why it would be Dereliction of Duty for the POTUS to veto or Dems in the Senate to filibuster to preserve funding for an unconstitutional action that undermines the Rule of Law and the foundation of the republic.

The House would be correct to deny funding for lawless amnesty.

Do you disagree?

Thune showed his hand the first time he ran for the Senate against Johnson and let the Indians on the reservation stuff the ballot box on him. He let Johnson get away with that but came back 6 years later to take the seat. He displayed weakness then and is showing his RATy Rino self now.
