HAYDEN, Idaho (AP) A 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother after he reached into her purse at a northern Idaho Wal-Mart and her concealed gun fired, authorities said Tuesday.
The 29-year-old woman was shopping with her son and three other children, Kootenai County sheriff's spokesman Stu Miller told The Associated Press. Her family had come to the area to visit relatives, he said.
The woman, whose identity was not released, had a concealed weapons permit. Miller said the young boy was left in a shopping cart, reached into the victim's purse and grabbed a small-caliber handgun, which discharged one time.
Deputies who responded to the Wal-Mart found her dead, the sheriff's office said.
In April, a 2-year-old boy apparently shot and killed his 11-year-old sister while they and their siblings played with a gun inside a Philadelphia home. Authorities said the gun was believed to have been brought into the home by the mother's boyfriend.
Hayden is a politically conservative town of about 9,000 people just north of Coeur d'Alene, in Idaho's northern panhandle.

Guess it could have been one of those ... Am ready when you are Son ... Mom forgives!
Which just goes to show that two-year-old boys are extremely dangerous and need to be regulated...
Wait till they make the White Supremecy connection.
How common is that, for a woman to walk around in a Wal Mart with an unzipped purse that storing a loaded gun close to the top? We may never know. Sad the other children had to see that. I hope they don’t hold that against the toddler as he grows up, though I understand that would be the primary and unspoken impulse, to affix blame.
I feel so sorry for this child. Not only did he lose his mother but he will be screwed up for the rest of his life just knowing he killed her. :-(
I am interested to know the full story; was the firearm cocked and unlocked?
I have no idea whether this applies, however I am a big supporter of choosing physical safeties on sidearms, especially when there are young ones about.
.
Couldn’t imagine what the father must feel like. That would SUCK, to put it mildly! Then again..... (my more cynical side wonders what his interests in the matter might have been)
Just a tragedy, no matter how you look at it.
Feel so sorry for that kid when it gets older and faces the reality of what was done......
There are a number of purses expressly designed for CCW, with a pocket that is easily accessible. It's not very useful to bury a handgun in the bottom of a purse.

Sad the other children had to see that. I hope they dont hold that against the toddler as he grows up.
The toddler is 2 years old. He didn't know what he was doing, and any child in grade school or older will realize that.
If she had a carry permit, it should have been on her body, not in her purse.
In Walmart! With a gun! In Coeur D’alene, Idaho! Mythical home of the Rednex! (Google it for some grins)
How’s that for a hick perfecto.
(Yes I know it’s a sad tragedy. R.I.P. lady. It’s just how the media is going gaga over it.)
Sad that the poor woman is dead. Sad the kid will be saddled with this.
But...... regardless of any other detail (gun type, safties, etc), the reason this happened is because the woman didn’t maintain control of her weapon.
granted all of that....you have to admit it is the dumbest thing in the world to leave a loaded gun in your purse with a two year old within reach of it....gun owners need to be responsible too otherwise they end like this woman
You are entirely correct, my FRiend.
thank you thank you thank you.... my point exactly
Yup, very sad. But pretty damn lame that she would ever allow the conditions for something like this to happen in the first place.
If I hypothetically of course had a concealed carry permit I would hypothetically carry in my purse. No annoying wardrobe malfunctions and always on my arm of course
Police officer at my handgun safety class said “There are two reasons for unintentional discharge...accident and negligence...lightning hitting a gun causing it to discharge is accident...allowing a gun to be hit by lightning is negligence”...enough said.
