Republican state lawmakers should listen to their governor and drop plans for right-to-work legislation.
Dont repeat Wisconsins tumultuous past.
Gov. Scott Walker just urged the Legislature not to take up a bill placing restrictions on private-sector unions similar to those that Act 10 applied to public-sector unions in 2011.
The right-to-work legislation right now, as well as reopening Act 10 to make any other adjustments, would be a distraction from the work that we are trying to do, Walker said.
Hes right. Wisconsin should focus instead on improving our schools and economy, fixing a state budget deficit and building more cooperation and trust.
Rep. Chris Kapenga, R-Delafield, wants to keep fighting, even though his side already won. Kapenga said Tuesday he plans to introduce a right-to-work bill next year. It would prevent private-sector workers from being forced to join a union or pay union dues or fees as a condition of employment.

Failing to fight the good fight turns me off to Walker.
Yeah, we can’t have too much freedom, can we?
This is the national strategy of the GOPe. To stand down now that the elections are over.
If it was the Democrats, they’d be plowing ahead with their agenda regardless.
Without liberal editors, this should read:
It would protect private-sector workers from being forced to join a union or pay union dues or fees as a condition of employment.
Something tells me Wisconsin/Walker may not be the only State to back off RTW. Many States are “considering it.” NH.MO.KY.NM.CO. and WI. But how many will actually push it through? We should know in 30-90 days.
Dont repeat Wisconsins tumultuous past = Don’t upset the liberals. Hogwash. Time to cut off liberal theft and funding.
It’ll get to his desk and he’ll sign it quietly. He’s trying to avoid the insane tumult that the unions raised during the Act 10 fight. It’s smart politics...playing the game.
How sad, the Wisconsin State Journal USED to be a great paper.
It’s been circling the drain for about 30 years. It needs to
be double flushed.
Very, very astute. You’re correct.
He had a talk with some big money liberal who supported Romney. After that Walker back pedaled on opposition to Common Core, as that guy supports it.
Timing is everything in politics.
Wisconsin has some of the most rabid leftists in the country. My social worker cousin is one of them. They are fanatics and believe every leftist talking point. Being rational, dealing with facts and trying to be intellectually consistent is not considered a virtue by these people.
These people (who are either on the dole or work for government - I repeat myself) are extremely active and can influence the Soccer Moms.
Walker is doing a good job and trying to build a conservative coalition. Be patient.
The previous governor, Democrat (in name only) state party leader Jim Doyle, used the $3B (B=billion) road fund to bail out the WEAC (Wisconsin Education Alliance Coop) retirement fund and state employee union funds.
This led to a state referendum for an amendment to the state constitution passed by the voters during Walker’s recall election. Then approved during the 2014 re-election of Scott Walker. That prevents diversion of this fund to other uses.
Because of that diversion the state road fund is hurting to cover necessary maintainence. You will never hear a demand from any of the dominating commie media in that state for that organization and others which benefited for payback.
>> Walker is doing a good job and trying to build a conservative coalition. Be patient.
In Wisconsin, he can do whatever seems good to him and his left-leaning residents.
But as a candidate for national office he’s now dead to me.
Unions are 100% pure communist evil. He should know better than to back off while he has momentum.
Good freaking grief!!! The man has WON!!!! You ARE a Nervous Tick!! You must be a GIRL!!
Oh stop it.
he’s never wanted to do anything hard since his recall.
he’s been essentially neutered.
wisconsin state journal is a liberal rag, btw.
I’m a conservative.
You do what you want, you histrionic dingbat. I could care less what you think.
!!!
“If it was the Democrats, theyd be plowing ahead with their agenda regardless.”
