Lee Albertorio felt like a man trapped in a womans body. After serving in the Air Force, he began taking hormones, which deepened his voice and made his physique more masculine.
He changed his passport to reflect that he was male, and last year he decided to have a mastectomy, known as top surgery. But his insurance company told him the operation was cosmetic and refused to cover it, he said Wednesday.
Now Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is warning insurance companies that they will no longer be allowed to deny gender reassignment surgery or other treatment to change a persons gender, like hormone therapy, if a doctor has deemed that treatment medically necessary.

Self-mutilation is part of the required medical coverage? That’s disgusting, which is typical for liberals.
Elective surgeries should NEVER be covered by insurance.
While veterans can just drop dead
Cuomo. Blechhh
After this becomes "law," there will be the usual folks who HAD the surgery and want it reversed somewhere down the line.
More $$$ for the attorneys.
Nothing new.
What possible elected procedure could be denied then?
This is insane. Ultimately it is all of us who will be paying for this with higher premiums and taxes.
I wonder how people “trapped in a body” that (say) needs new hips, will feel about waiting 18 to 36 months for the operation (that’s the norm, here in Canada), while “gender-reassignment” surgeries jump the queue.

“In a surprise move, all major insurance companies in New York closed today.”
I didn’t know ny was a kingdom.
But they do not agree they are elective. I agree, but the freaks on the left think you are what you imagine yourself to be rather than what you actually are.
granted, others have Hep C thru no fault of their own...
but the point is were going to start treating a lot of illnesses arising from drug use, alcohol use, promiscuity, anal sex, etc...well we're already paying for anal sex diseases whether we want to or not....
btw, there are thousands of druggies getting extremely expensive IV antibiotic treatments to "cure" their injection site cellulitis...they end up staying in the hospital for several weeks because no one will take them into nursing homes...they require central lines and all that entails....
and they are not the least bit grateful for any of it....they just want their Phenergan/Benadryl/dilaudid IV pushes so they can get hight...and "give it fast" is their mantra..
the days of medical care for the diseased is just going to be a quaint old custom but the medical care for the deranged and sexed is going to boom....
I wish we could purchase insurance where we chose what we wanted to purchase based on price and our individual preferences. We do it for car insurance, where my auto coverage does not include oil changes. It would make sense if medical insurance didn’t have to include routine care, birth control, recreational drugs such as Viagra, and routine physicals. I’d rather have just major medical that kicked in for very large bills only - imagine how much cheaper that would be for those who are healthy. Of course, making sense is not what we expect from FedGov.
The only trap here is Satan, pumping willing dupes with his nonsense about what they ought to be.
Popular culture is a lousy mentor.
It would be like not just covering oil changes, but supplying your choice of rear view mirror hanging deodorant pendants.
As I said when 0bamacare was being discussed, they are going to force the citizens to pay for sex-”change” operations, abortions, aids care and killing the elderly.
The only 10th Amendment-protected check on Gov. Cuomos 10th Amendment-protected push for this insurance is the if voters tell Gov. Cuomo no. But if concerned voters sit on their hands concerning this issue then there is no other remedy imo.
Oh... make that turning your parents’ car into a convertible because you didn’t like the hardtop.
They get fooled into believing all this nonsense is free.
If we COULD somehow overlook the obvious morality aspect here, it is still cheaper to go private than subsidized. Subsidy will make prices do only one thing and that is shoot up. So the result is not only immoral but at a ghastly price.
