Cosby's Last Act
americanthinker.com ^ | 11-24-2014 | Bill Kassel

While certainly no Tea Party icon, Bill Cosby has been a highly vocal, highly visible exponent of parental responsibility, youthful rectitude, and all-around self control.

What we’re hearing about him lately rather weakens his message, to say the least. And that’s very much to the point. Eliminating Bill Cosby as a dissident voice in the lefty atmosphere of Hollywood -- where it’s an article of Received Truth that the solutions to all social problems, and especially to the woes of black people, lie in government -- no doubt brings satisfaction to those who consider Cosby a right-wing pawn.

But let’s go a step farther.

Isn’t there another prominent figure who’s emerged from the African-American community with a similar personal-integrity message -- someone, moreover, who’s recently changed his party affiliation to Republican and is gaining traction as a possible presidential or vice-presidential nominee?

A certain retired neurosurgeon comes to mind: one Ben Carson.

Could it be -- is it within the realm of possibility -- that Cosby’s alleged crimes have been so glaringly brought to light with an objective not unlike that of those old KGB spooks who sought to tar John Paul with the smear on Pius? Is this a shot across the bow of black conservatives in general and Ben Carson in particular?

I don’t wish to minimize Cosby’s possible guilt, and I’m not suggesting that the women accusing him are willing participants in a political gambit. In fact, one of the alleged victims -- actress/producer Barbara Bowman, who claims Cosby raped her back in 1985 -- asked a very pertinent question in an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post: “Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story?”

Why, indeed?

But more to the point, why now?

Is this a warning to Carson from the powers that be that he will get the "Herman Cain" treatment?

This guy has the Jimmy Swaggert syndrome. No one preached more purity, specifically against sexual sin than Jimmy Swaggert. Turns out that was his demon. We got the same thing with Bill Cosby.

I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. If these stories are true, Cosby acted the same as a former governor from Arkansas who is also a former President of the United States. To many on the left, including the MSM, that man is a hero. Why aren’t those people supporting Cosby? Just asking.

Nonsense, Cosby is an old Obama loving lefty that hates republicans and calls them racists and “segregationists” and he was for Trayvon and a big and involved supporter for Tawana Brawley.

Evidently he is also a lifelong hater of women.

Until I continued reading, I honestly thought where the author was going with that thought was to MLK.

Cosby is liberal. As recently as a couple years ago, he was accusing Republicans of opposing Obama because of racism. Is it good to hear him talk about parental responsibility? Yes. But that doesn't make him some hero. Obama and Clinton talked about parental responsibility too.

Yep. Cosby has hung out with Hugh Hefner since the 1960s, fathered at least one love child, committed adultery etc, and he is a spokesman for “self-control?” It was an act to further his financial interests and insulate his wealth from his true nature. Obama (who Cosby supports) preaches the same things, talks endlessly about caring for the poor, while his own family lives in shacks.

It’s only a problem if Carson has women issues - although I never really believed the stuff about Cain.

I think Cosby’s being ruined at this point because of Ferguson. The powers-that-be don’t want him mouthing off that the “victim” had crummy parents.

Too bad he doesn't exhibit those same qualities in his personal life.

This is where I differ from most freepers. I happen to occasionally root for the hypocrite. Cosby was putting out a positive message to inner city people - in other words: hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue.

Jesus said “woe to the hypocrites”. I think you separate with more than just the freepers when you back hypocrites... :)

If you remember, this whole thing heated up because some black comedian said that Bill had no right to tell people to pull their pants up, because he raped women.

That’s what hypocrites do, they further damage the very cause that they claim to care about.

Hypocrisy does a lot more harm than good, just makes people even more cynical.

Oh, I’m used to being separate - I enjoy it, actually. Spare me the religious stuff, though.

At least you embrace hypocrisy. “I’m a proud conservative... spare me the religious stuff.”
