How to Rebuke a President
The Weekly Standard ^ | Jay Cost

Posted on 11/23/2014 7:15:20 AM PST by ReaganThatcherJohnPaul2

For responding to a president who defies his constitutional limits, Congress is said to possess four powers: to impeach, to defund, to investigate, and to withhold confirmation of nominees.

But there is a fifth recourse, which the new Republican Congress might consider in view of President Obama’s executive amnesty for illegal immigrants: the power to censure. In fact, censure could work in tandem with Congress’s other powers, helping the legislature make the moral case for responding to the president’s lawlessness.

TOPICS: Editorial; Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: censure
Censure, deny funding, pass a strong border security only bill.

You ‘rebuke’ him by making him the first black man to be impeached by the House and then thrown out of office by the Senate - that’s how.

Unfortunately, a rebuke in this day and age is meaningless.

First step, to paraphrase Colonel Cooper:

"Have an opposition political party."

If you don't have that anything else is just a pipe dream.

The only answer to this tryant is to remove him from office.

NOTHING ELSE matters, and anything short of that does not merit cnsideration or conversation and is cowardice and failure.

BREITBART.COM---Michelle Bachmann: 'Melt the Phone Lines' Against Exec Amnesty / Ian Hanchett (on Twitter @IanHanchett)

START CALLING DEC 1 thru DEC 11...Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Fox's "Hannity" urged members of the public to "melt the phone lines" to defund President Obama's executive order on immigration.

"Congress has a responsibility to uphold the laws of the land as well, and we can defund this president's illegal amnesty. That's what we must do. We can't do it alone. We can't do it alone. We need your viewers."

(A) Congress will be back December 1st through December 11th. This will be decided in that period of time. We need to have your viewers melt the phone lines. Congress isn't here, they're gone from Washington tonight, but from December 1st to the 11th we need them to melt the phone lines and say 'defund amnesty.'

(B) We need Americans to go to Senators' and Congressman's office. I'm calling on your viewers to come to DC on Wednesday, December 3rd at high noon on the west steps of the Capitol to rally, and to go Senators and Congressmen because nothing frightens a congressman like the whites of his constituents' eyes" she said.

Bachmann added, "when I was watching this speech, I felt like I was watching Jonathan Gruber---because all I heard was contempt for the American people--- as though Obama thought we were so stupid, that somehow he could say that his illegal actions were legal and we would all turn over, roll over, and believe it."

Rebuke only has sting when the recipient has ‘sacred honor.’

Public political censure would be well-deserved great rebuke of the lawlessness of Obama.

How can Congress possibly forego the chance to bring about this historic first?

Agreed. I mean, black society in general along with the pathetic media seems to revel in the “first black anything”....why not this?

It would just mean that a black man has finally arrived at the level of the lying white man politician criminal

Normally I would agree with you but right now I think that as soon as the new Senate convenes in January they should formally censure Obama in a serious and solemn way.

This will draw a contrast between serious adults and statesmen and an incompetent clown. It may not seem like much but it sets a tone and is a way to start marginalizing Obama. Personally I think the Houses of Congress should largely ignore Obama going forward and just get to the business of legislation. If he vetoes fine just let him it will just make the Dems more irrelevant going forward. I want to see them wander in the desert for 20 years.

I say censure the POS and then move forward. Don’t try to fight him everyday in the press. Its a loser.

How about the fifth option? Take it to court to confirm that the actions are, in fact, unconstitutional as we all know them to be. The Courts are the only ones who can stop him.

The House should do everything it can (as well as the new Senate)...censure is fine as one action but I would also like them to publicly shun the lawless president. Announce that he will not be welcome in the House for the State of the Union speech until constitutional process is restored.

Actually, the courts support him - either through loyalty (lifetime appointments) or intimidation (John Roberts).

1)Require him to follow the 1986 Immigration law requiring congressional notification, review, and consent of any changes to the act. (Can take up to 2 years of review for major changes!)

2) Begin an investigation to determine if he is still a Commonwealth citizen or an Indonesian citizen.

3) Subpoena Occidental College for his school records; did he indicate he was on a student visa and get special treatment?
