Angus King is holding a press conference. Apparently, officially it's merely to "discuss" what party he will caucus with; I don't know if National Review's Sahil Kapur is being presumptuous, but he tweeted that King will caucus with the Republican Party. King has been a lockstep liberal, but switching party may move him slightly to the right (as it did Colorado party-switcher Ben Nighthorse Campbell). More importantly, it would seem unlikely that he could politically switch back to the Democrats if the Republicans outnumbered them 50-49 after the 2016 elections. So this would give the Republicans a boost in holding on to the majority; King would make a Republican caucus of 55, presuming the Republicans hold Alaska and pick up Louisiana. Virginia would be #56 if the Republicans somehow won that.
Its possible West Virginia’s Joe Manchin could jump ship. His state is Red.
Forget Virginia. Warner has too much money to fail.
Manchin next?
Is that 55? Will it matter, or we he crap out like other Northeastern ‘republicans’?
We need numbers for 2016.
Manchin aide has said he wont today. Time for a deluge of threats to Rahall him if he doesnt
Manchin does have some conservative tendencies (relatively speaking), and he can see the handwriting on the wall in WV. I could see him making the switch.
Are they recounting?
I suspect Warner will be voting more to the right since he plans to seek higher office in 2016.
Tell him if he votes straight Republican for two years and battles what ever rat runs for Potus in 2016, they might consider him.
Do they have to accept him?
There isn’t much of future for Democrats in West Virginia.
Every single US House seat is now GOP. The State House has a GOP majority and the state Senate is now evenly split.
No decision yet.
That was a completely gratuitous sadsack comment.
55% is the milestone “landslide” figure for elections If the GOP caucus can get to this (or higher), it would be a De Facto super-majority.
It matters in that the numbers are important for committee composition, etc. One of the reasons why even a total RINO is better than any Dem. Marginally better, perhaps, but still better.
Gillespie was way ahead until the 99% Dem precincts threw it to Warner. The fix was in. If there is a recount, some uncounted ballots will be found to seal Warner’s win.
