Edging closer to his lifelong dream of leading a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Mitch McConnell has been largely quiet about what specific agenda his potential new majority would pursue.
"This is not the time to lay out an agenda," McConnell told reporters Friday after an event in Lexington. "But I will say this: Divided government in the past has been pretty effective."
"It's never a good idea to tell the other side what the first play is going to be, but I think it's safe to say we'll have a very different direction for the country," McConnell said after an event last week in Grayson.
"Number one, we're going to get the Senate back to normal, which means people can actually vote, both Democrats and Republicans," McConnell said.

Power sharing.
When he says "the other side"... does he mean conservatives?
Democrat win or not, this douche bag needs to rinsed and sent home.
If we take the leadership, it would be insane to have him there to defeat anything positive that could come of it.
his agenda is not actually a secret. He’s going to continue to defend the status quo
What is it with Republicans. The Democrats even with a slim minority vie for power and drive the debate. The Republicans get a clear majority and talk about power sharing.
Just shoot me...
I’ll bet McConnell and Reid are friends, after hours.
(NOT joking)
I would never bet against that
That’s entirely reasonable.
McCain couldn’t find a bad thing to say about Ted Kennedy. They were busom buddies.
You know, Reagan and O’Neil had a good relationship, so I’m not saying you can’t have one. Reagan stuck to his guns though, and wasn’t swayed by O’Neil.
That is not the model of Kennedy or McConnell. They’ve been had!
Had intended to say...
That is not the model of MC CAIN or McConnell. Theyve been had!
Are they positive the doddering old RINO fool is even cognizant of his surroundings?
” Reagan stuck to his guns though, and wasnt swayed by ONeil.”
The last Republican POTUS to do so. None since.
He’s pro-Amnesty and pro-0bamacare. I suppose it depends on the day and whether he’s trying to dupe conservatives or not....
That’s my take too, and of course that pretty much describes the presidents before him as well.
He was not a party political insider. He didn’t cow-tow to the Republican elites (GOPe if you will).
Bush was the go-to guy for the GOPe back then.
God how they hated Reagan.
Term limits is the only way to stop this. They stay in office for life, and inevitably become friends over the years. You have to have character not to fall prey to this, and that has disappeared.
Miotch is Soetoro’s biotch.
While I think that is a reasoned idea, I think they need to become unpaid, no retirements, no medical, and spend ten of 12 months in the private sector at home.
Not many folks will remain in that setting for more than a few terms. It takes the power away.
Imagine the success of full time lobbyists, when they are out of a job ten months out of twelve.
That would be the end of them.
You have good points here. Now, how do we make it happen?
McConnell will reinstate the filibuster and make all kinds of concessions on bills “in the interest of finding common ground”. Reid will thank him to his face and try not to bust out laughing while doing it and then stick a “Kick Me Hard” paper to his back when he turns around.
Democrats fight like hell for their obnoxious liberal agenda. Republicans make half hearted attempts at a conservative-tinged agenda and then shrug their shoulders and say “if we could only win the presidency” when then meet the slightest resistance.
McCockle wants to reach across the aisle and compromise with his colleagues.
The House and the Senate change their rules.
With Republicans in power, that should be a lot easier.
I would roll back as much as I could, then adjourn.
Call back the House and the Senate the next year for a short period 2-3 months.
End pay. End retirements. End other perks.
Pass one bill to end all special treatment, so that the members of the House and Senate have to live under the rules the rest of us do.
If this requires a two-thirds vote, it may not be workable.
This is what I would strive for.
I think it would be best to end the popular vote for Senators also.
We have a solid lock on Governors. Go back to appointments.
