My original reply: "The infrastructure is already built." was in response to your claim Russia would have the same problem sending the gas west. They already send the gas west.
The pipelines to deliver from another source are not the primary problem. It is getting another source now. Years from now another source can be brought online.
I see a portion of it in operations by early 2016 and complete capacity by early 2018. The pipeline is built in 4 strings.
The first string will carry approximately 1/10 the gas Russia currently supplies to Europe. When all is completed, the total line would equal about 3/4 of the gas moved through Ukraine.

No wonder the confusion. In my first post I meant to say “east”.
I think we are in agreement. Russia doesn’t have the ability to significantly sell the volumes it sell to Europe this year to someone else. Likewise, Europe cannot replace that volume from someone else.
While pipelines are the cheapest way to ship the product, it does limit the options for those on both ends of the line.
