Independent Scotland could not keep pound and join EU

In a blow to the Yes campaign, Olli Rehn, vice president of the European Parliament and former commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, said keeping the pound without consent from Westminster "would simply not be possible" because EU membership requires countries to have access to an independent central bank.

All three main political parties in Westminster have already slammed the door shut on a currency union between an independent Scotland and the rest of the UK. However, Alex Salmond, Scotland's First Minister, has argued that this would not stop Scotland from using the pound anyway.

Why are they going for independence? Because they are fed up with England allowing radical Islam to take root? Good enough reason for me.

Could be. Just read an article in the WSJ though that suggests a reason that may be more plausible. It seems that a large portion of Scot’s GDP comes from their scotch whiskey. And, it seems that all the UK chatter about dropping out of the EU has made some Scots nervous. Reason being; if the UK (including Scotland) should vote to leave the EU then as an outsider scot whiskey would be subject to tariffs, taxes, customs regulations, etc, making Scot whiskey more expensive and difficult to sell. What’s that Jerry McQuire quite? “Follow the Money”. :)

I don’t think that will happen. We were a country before
we made the decision to become part of the union. It was
mexican citizens that kicked that punk Santa Anna out in
the first place. There is something different about Texas.
We don’t seem to be as eat up with ignorant liberalism as
the west coast and the north east. We have a couple of blue spots
here and there, but nothing that can’t be taken care of
over night if need be.

Laura Ingraham conducted an interview with UKIP’s party leader on her radio “talkie” where he encouraged Scotland stay within the union despite the fact the country is socialist and would give him problems if he becomes Brits PM.

Thanks to contemporary educators and revisionist historians, it is far more likely that the Mexican Reconquista crowd knows more about the Alamo and San Jacinto than your typical American public school product.

Gee, I wonder then how Luxembourg (which had already had founded a currency union with Belgium in 1921), Vatican City (which never had its own currency), Andorra, etc. were allowed membership in the E.U., despite not having their own currency?

So, I guess that Scotland will have to form its own independent central bank - big deal!

Ever see the photos of the captured Iraqi/Syrian soldiers bound, kneeling and cringing, waiting for their bullet to the back of the head?

How bout those bound soldiers in their underwear being marched out into the desert knowing full well they have only moments left on the earth?

That is contrary to native Texans. They will stand and die with honor when duty calls. Sure, you have all the Northerners, foreigners and others who could give a rats @$$ about the republic crowding our cities.

It is when you get out in the country you meet the die hard native Texan. Only paralleled by Native Tennesseans, Native Scotsman. These are the folks with honor, vision, heart and determination. I've been to Scotland many times. I have good friends residing there. Scrapers.

Wanna open a can of genu-wine whoop @$$? Keep on pushin. One day, folks are gonna come out of the corner swingin and it's gonna be ugly.

Exactly!
The Scots are (or have been known for in the past) independent and resourceful. Many Americans today are descendants of Scots who left English oppression and hacked out a way of life in the New World wilderness. They have a heritage of making things work.
I wouldn’t underestimate them.

Well, I bit; looked it up. Wikipedia starts out by stating “haggis is a savory pudding” and then goes on to describe its contents, how it’s made, etc. I’ve always been open minded about food and have tried the Aussie infamous veggie-mite, putrid Asian Duran, and various and sundry other “unique” foods. So, guess I should give haggis a try before I turn up my nose :)
