An apparent near miss between two aircraft that was captured on video at Barcelona Airport has prompted an investigation by Spanish aviation authorities.
The video shows a Boeing 767 belonging to Russian airline UTair pulling up from its landing approach as an Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A340 taxis across its path.
No one was injured in the incident and the UTair plane was able to circle round and make a safe landing five minutes later.
The video, shot on Saturday, had gained nearly two million YouTube hits by Monday.
Spain's airport authority, AENA, said the government's Committee on Civil Aviation Incidents and Accidents would look into the incident.

I’m reminded of the old Calvin and Hobbes comic where Calvin (in one of his more imaginative daydreams) pulls a barrel roll in his commercial jet to cut off and land ahead of a competing airline’s passenger jet.
There were two 747s in the Canary Islands that crashed about 30 years ago. KLM equipment, I think. Last words out of the German pilot’s mouth was “Mein Gott”.
How do you say hold short in Spanish.
George Carlin: Here’s one they just made up: “near miss”. When two planes almost collide, they call it a near miss. It’s a near hit. A collision is a near miss.
A near miss is when my daughter is close to me. The two planes’ operators chose not to attempt to occupy the same space simultaneously.
Most certainly the crew of the airbus, and perhaps the ground controller as well are in some serious trouble. On the voice tapes, one will be able to discern if the airbus was given “cross runway X” or “proceed to runway X and hold short” instructions. The crew should have seen and avoid in any case, given the visual conditions. If the ceiling and visibility was 0-0 instead of great VFR, that would shift much more of the responsibility on the controller.
Much better watching this on you tube than having to listen to bimbo CNN reporter. “Shocking, stunning, heart stopping, astounding amazing video
‘
Just shut up !
This is why airliners land with full power.
If a go-around is required, there would be no spool-up delay in switching from a landing to a takeoff configuration.
Truer words, etc......
Yikes. I wonder if the pilots are the types of pedestrians who step off of curbs without looking.
Bingo..the co-pilot in the Argentine plane is responsible for looking forward and to the right..how he missed the plane about to land is hard to imagine..
Tenerife.
KLM and Pan AM jets were involved.
KLM's most senior pilot was in a hurry and thought he was more omniscient than God. Very tragic; just a few more feet of clearance and the accident wouldn't have happened.
...regardless of whether the tower told him to cross the runway or not. His fault for not noticing the approaching aircraft.
If I was the pilot, I’d kick someone’s ass the second my passengers disembarked.
Ya, I knew I wasn’t the only one to notice.
Makes you wonder....and I never, ever flew Iberia.
