We should be ashamed of the shooting after shooting on our streets and in our schools. We should be ashamed that Congress sits on its hands and does nothing to curb the slaughter.
Eighteen months ago, 20 children were murdered in a grade school in Connecticut and nothing was done to expand background checks or limit weapons clips. Since then, there have been 74 shootings at schools the latest this week in Oregon left two dead and one wounded and still nothing is done. And that's just schools; that doesn't count the shootings in theaters, temples, churches and incidents such as the recent Las Vegas spree that left two police officers, a Walmart customer and the two shooters dead.
And now, with the defeat of the No. 2 Republican in the House, Eric Cantor, the chances of anything getting done are even slimmer. Cantor, a Virginia Republican, who some critics said was too soft on defending gun rights as well as immigration reform, lost in a stunning upset to a tea party candidate in a GOP primary Tuesday. His defeat likely will both embolden the tea party wing of the Republican Party and make any remaining establishment Republicans more cautious. That means little action on issues such as gun control and immigration reform.
"The country has to do some soul-searching on this. This is becoming the norm," Obama said Tuesday. "Our levels of gun violence are off the charts. There's no advanced developed country on Earth that would put up with this."
Yes, mental health is an issue related to violence, and we have to find better ways of dealing with it. But other countries have people with mental illnesses and don't have shootings on this scale.

Rather, we should be ashamed that we as a nation have lost our moral foundations.
This paper wants everyone else defenseless because of some pipedream that killers won’t kill if guns are registered or taken away.
They should be charged with complicity in the murder of innocents.
Anthropomorphizing a country is pointless. In order for one to search one's soul, one must have a soul to begin with. I venture that a majority of Congress and everyone in the executive branch is as soulless as Satan himself.
The author is wrong. It is up to the local law enforcement to arrest violent criminals and quit focusing on suburban teens with a couple marijuana seeds in the car’s carpet.
If they could just explain what additional gun laws would prevent people from killing, I would be open to them.
I don’t think they have grasped the concept that by their nature criminals tend to ignore laws.
“Rather, we should be ashamed that we as a nation have lost our moral foundations.”
Shooters simply look at these killings as post birth abortions. Society has been telling them it’s OK to murder since Roe v Wade.
and nothing was done to expand background checks or limit weapons clips.

neither of which would have saved one of those lives lost

Yes, the author is so very correct but cause and effect has no bearing on their complete inability to understand why. It is because they still have asylums for those people and don’t let them loose on society.
What did the Moslem Tyrant tell the 5 Generals whom
he released to the Enemy this month?
Obama’s released terrorists are not ashamed, are they?
What did Obama tell the one he released in 2009
who just sacked Iraq killing tens of thousands?
Obama’s released terrorists are not ashamed, are they?
ding ding ding ding
We have a winner.
Much of the gun violence in our cities, particularly Chicago is related to drug gangs from Mexico moving their turf-wars into their prime marketplace. Having an actual Southern border would be a good start to addressing this.
Here is a fact, in America, T.V. soap opera weddings attract more viewers than a presidential address. So much for the bully pulpit.
For the time being I remain even more Ashamed of our National Media and their slavish devotion to the worst “president” that this country has ever had.
Why are schools setting kids up to use guns against anyone. Kids used to be able to take a gun on a school buss to go hunting after school. Kids used to be trained in gun safety. I had NRA Hunter Safety in high school two years in a row. What are you doing to the people GOVERNMENT?
That statistic is a provable lie that even CNN has acknowledged after first reporting it as true.
And this rag has announced that they are not going to cover the (black) county sheriff who directly states that Milwaukee gun violence is attributable to terrible court catch and release sentences.
Yes, it is a shame, but don’t take it out on a tool and those of us who have absolutely nothing to do with it. There’s nothing wrong with blaming the individual who used the firearm in an immoral way. Too many have learned, through entertainment and leadership example, that nothing is their fault.
It seems to me there was a time of 'lawlessness' that perhaps overstepped sometimes, but for all practical purposes, justice was dealt with swiftly and permanently.
I don't know If I want to return to that time of lawlessness or not, but it would be a lot more American if men on a grander scale were at least willing to deliver said justice rather than drink with their esteemed colleague on the other side of the aisle
Uh, ashamed of the POtuS. I mean really. I can’t believe that the lyin’ king is in his 2nd term. I guess the takers outvote the makers eveytime now huh? “Hope”fully there’s gonna be a “change” in Nov. Of course the cries of racis’ and bigot and homophobe will ring out in the lsm if the (small “C”) conservatives win the senate.
