Eric Cantor’s Primary Loss Is a Political Earthquake. And It’s Awful.
Daily Beast ^ | June 10, 2014 | Michael Tomasky

How did the No. 2 man in the House lose a primary? Chalk it up to immigration and the Tea Party. It’s one of the most shocking losses in U.S. electoral history—and it’s bad for America. Here’s the thing: Eric Cantor did not fall asleep in this race. He spent around $5 million. He ran lots of TV ads. He knew this was going to be a close one. He campaigned. And he still got creamed.

And here’s the other thing: Cantor was not an enemy of the Tea Party. He was in fact the Tea Party’s guy in the leadership for much of the Barack Obama era. He carried the tea into the speaker’s office. And still he got creamed.

I’m not very old but I’m older than a lot here. I’ve watched the battle rage between liberals and conservatives, black and white, have and have not, democrat and republican... take your pick and call them what you want for the last 50 years or so. The progressives take three steps forward and the patriots tried to play by the rules of the constitution and may dial things back one step out of the three. Now the patriots are no longer in politics because they have become traitors to the constitution to preserve their power, prestige and money.

Principled leadership and a respect for the Constitution are all that will save us. Pimping for dollars and power will serve only the pimps.

A benevolent dictatorship is probably the best form of government but benevolence in dictators is almost impossible to find. The closest I have seen in modern times is Singapore.

A fellow once told me things will never stay the same. If you do nothing and expect or hope for status quo the path will be downward so your only choice is to work hard to go up.

Color me crazy but I think this is the only way out.

Cantor is an old anti-Palin, anti-tea party, pro-Romney, anti-Michelle Bachmann, guy.

Paul Ryan, like every other member of the House, is up for re-election this year. A two year term.

I used to like the guy, but not anymore. He’s a huge disappointment.

Ironic part is Cantor will now go out and make some serious coin in lobbying or law firms.

Ye shall know them by their lobbying job. Lets see who he ends up with and at how many millions per year? Same as an top Demo-puke who gets booted out of office. His wife is already a connected DC player

That’s true. Tomorrow we need every FReeper in a GOP district to mail and call their rep and get them to commit to no reelecting Boehner. We need a conservative at the head of the House GOP, not a compromiser.

One mind is more insightful than may?

One “wise” leader is wiser than many?

Good luck with the ‘Benevolent Dictator’ concept, but I’d suggest not trying it in Miami. Seems the Cubans rememberr some weirded beardo claiming to be that Benevolent Leader.

Didn’t work out as advertised, but it never has. Tomorrow doesn’t look good either.

Now if only Boehner can get beat in the general, things may look a whole lot different come next January.

Thanks! Looks like they handpicked a sacrificial lamb to run against Cantor. We’ll get to see how the GOPe behaves.
