The 9-foot-tall armored truck was intended for an overseas battlefield. But as President Obama ushers in the end of what he called America’s “long season of war,” the former tools of combat — M-16 rifles, grenade launchers, silencers and more — are ending up in local police departments, often with little public notice.

I know there will be some PD’s that would love to play army on unarmed civilians and their pooches, but there may also be some PD’s that are vehemently against baraq and his fellow travelers. Guess we will see who is on what side when the poop hits the prop.

In a sane world, most of these would be surplused after a year or two because the fleet departments don’t have the tools or labor to maintain them or the budget for sustained operations.
I’ve been involved in providing fleet services to LE for years and you would be surprised at what they can do to equipment. It’s part of their entitlement mentality. They will purposely abuse any and all vehicles, computers, office copiers if and when they so choose so that they can get the newest toys loaded with all of the gadgets.
We always ran pool to see how long it would take to crash the new cars. Shortest time was 9 days and the officer took out a power pole. The chief called me out to the scene and was explaining what happened and that the driver laid down 200 ft of skid marks. I looked around and didn’t see any and then reminded him that the vehicle was equipped with ABS and that the speed limit on the city street was only 25 and asked if he was responding to a shooting? The chief just looked at me and couldn’t believe that I was trying to use logic to figure out one of his boys could total a new car in only 9 days...
I live in that suburb, it was the Morgan County sheriff that got it and I’ve known Bob Downey, the sheriff here, for a long time. Him I trust, but who knows about the next guy who gets in there though like his idiot Deputy quoted here. He is the kind of sheriff most freepers would respect, huge supporter of the second amendment and not a gung-ho type pushing a liberal agenda at all.
He knew there was going to be a sh*tstorm when he took it, but also I can somewhat see his point of view for doing it also. The vehicle was completely free, it just cost the fuel to drive it back here and park it.
It will only be used under extreme circumstances, it’s not like they will be getting the morning coffee in it or doing raids all the time, at least I know he won’t. He has a Boyscout mentality and would rather have it parked there and never be used than need it just once and not have access to it in a pinch.
