Governor interested in results of Habersham raid investigation (Toddler flashbanged)
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | June 2, 2014 | Steve Visser

Gov. Nathan Deal said Monday he’s awaiting an investigation of the botched drug raid in Habersham County that left a child on life-support to determine if executive action or state legislation is needed.

“Any time you have bad facts like this one, it does give you cause for concern. It’s one of those things that require a thorough investigation … to know what if anything we can learn from it.”

Habersham County District Attorney Brian Rickman said he is investigating whether officers violated the law when they used a controversial “no-knock warrant” for a raid on a Cornelia house Wednesday.

--SNIP--

“There is no question that you want to know how you happened and how could it have been prevented and that no-knocks are only being used where they are necessary,” Rickman told the Atlanta Journal Constitution Monday. “There is no question they are among the more dangerous for everybody involved.”

The lawyer representing the 19-month-old baby critically wounded by a police stun grenade is asking for state and federal investigators to review the Habersham raid. He said contentions by Sheriff Joey Terrell that officers did not know four small children were present in the house didn’t pass the smell test.

Police surveillance should have revealed that children had been playing in front of the the house for two months and that a van with four car-child seats was parked in the driveway that officers crept by the night of the raid.

“We believe they were criminally negligent because of the children,” Mawuli Mel Davis said.“This isn’t police work. This is cowboys.”

For those not familiar with the story:

Toddler critically injured by ‘flash bang’ during police search

Four days ago this same D.A. claimed the cops did no wrong. Since then it's come out police did no surviellance and based the entire premise of the raid off an informant who did not even enter the house.

Deal has surprised me on a couple of things recently...maybe he will be the one to finally do something?

“to know what if anything we can learn from it.”

You mean like that maybe, just maybe tossing explosive devices into an occupied dwelling may be dangerous and some innocent person could get hurt? Is that what you mean Governor Deal?

What a frickin idiot... Every single “law enforcement” d-bag involved in this from top to bottom needs to be indicted. And when they’re convicted they need to be stripped of all public benefits immediately and have those turned over to the family of the kid they almost murdered.

Well isn’t that special? Now that the baby has been burned, the governor is going to “await an investigation.” And after much clucking of tongues and lamentation over the unfortunate events, precisely nothing will happen. The uniparty wants it’s version of law and order and it’s gonna get it regardless.

I absolutely agree with this and raise the direct possibility that no-knocks are overused by about 90%:

“There is no question that you want to know how you happened and how could it have been prevented and that no-knocks are only being used where they are necessary,” Rickman told the Atlanta Journal Constitution Monday. “There is no question they are among the more dangerous for everybody involved.”

Don’t forget the judge who signed the warrant.

Is the baby going to recover? I don’t think I realized how badly he (or she) was hurt.

Deal is a 19 year Republican, former Democrat.

The sheriff did do one wise thing. He asked for prayer for all. However, the presence of the Holy Spirit may not let him, or the system he is part of, sit back on smug laurels. This is not an easy situation where there is a clear villain and a clear hero. All had “room for improvement” as is euphemistically put.

They knew who this guy was, he was a parole violator, there was no need to storm this house.

Maybe THIS will be the case that starts to put an end to this type of needless violence.

Last was heard, nobody knew. The bomb tore the baby’s chest, not just burned its face. Some other accusations of mistreatment of the baby at the site are being slung around, but I don’t know if they are true or being ginned up so I won’t be specific.

It’s heartbreaking that it took the critical injury of a 19 month old baby to get the widespread JB abuses into the spotlight.

The drug culprit was caught elsewhere. He wasn’t at home when the raid took place.

Sure he ought to pay too, but this does not excuse the Chinese Fire Drill.

>> there was no need to storm this house.

When justifying training, equipment, resources, budgets, these actions are necessary.

There is no answer for this in the systems of man. Evil can take on any garb whatsoever.

People are going to have to care about God again. I got mocked on Facebook for bringing up God and His expectations repeatedly in respect to this debacle. But that is not stopping me!

The Infant that matters the most isn’t even this one. It’s the one that was born that Christmas morn about 2 millennia ago.

Sometimes it becomes an ego thing. When the fear of God is gone, that runs rampant. That can explain the madness of man in a nutshell.
