A Vermont woman who sneaked up behind a police officer while under arrest and allegedly tried to slit his throat with a knife was found not guilty of attempted murder.

Jennifer Berube, 40, was acquitted of attempted second-degree murder and a lesser charge of attempted aggravated assault on Friday by a jury in Rutland, a city in western Vermont about 60 miles south of Burlington.

Surveillance footage from inside the station house showed Berube grabbing Nguyen by the neck with a 2-inch blade in her hand before getting overpowered by several other officers.

Nguyen suffered a cut near his jugular vein and was treated at a hospital.

He has since recovered and was back on the job.

It took the 12-man jury less than two hours to acquit Berube.

Just when you thought the courts couldn’t get any worse, this was videotaped and still not guilty?

Remember that actress, forget her name, who was on tape shoplifting big amounts of merchandise from a store? If I recall correctly, she was found not guilty of the most serious charges, even though they had security tapes to view.

Jury nullification at work????

White heron addict attacks Asian cop? Obviously, they need to retry her on a hate crime charge.

Rutland is (or used to be) the hometown of Charles E. Tuttle publishers, who were really big in the Japan-study biz back in the mid-1900s.

"Hey, we got a 911 call from over at the Henderson place!"

"Oh, wasn't he one of the Berube jurors?"

"Oh, that's right."

"Yup. We'll get right on it, as soon as I find the time."

Yes, Winona Ryder was the one.

Whatever happened to her? Is she still around? I don’t pay much attention to the popular culture anymore.

The prosecutor went for the gold, attempted murder, and the jury of 12 wasn’t buying that. Only two hours for deliberation shows that they must have had substantial reasons not to convict. I suspect there is a lot more going on with the Rutland PD than is presented in this article and the jury know that. Perhaps the tape also caught the police ignoring her husband hanging himself in the jail and refusing to check on him?
