Two-thirds of the world still remain without internet access. Google is now planning to change this by launching a fleet of 180 satellites to provide web access for the 4.8 billion people not yet online

That's right over my house. I can see it from here................

When Bill Gates wanted to do this, NASA complained:

“at this orbit, with that concentration of equipment one failed screw would loosen from one satellite. That screw would hit another satellite like a bullet, causing a chain reaction that would encase the entire planet in a debris field. That would greatly diminish, or even end, all future space exploration for mankind”

But I see that’s no longer a concern.

So when aliens from outer space want to know what this world is like, all they have to do is Google.

Google wouldn’t do this out of kindness. They want total control.

There was Mike Nesmith song about that IIRC.

"a fleet of 180 satellites to provide web access"

That still provides a pretty narrow bandwidth compared to what is carried by the fiber cable bundle going down my street.

I hope they've looked into the practicality of the Device on the ground.
Communicating with a satellite takes a fair amount of Battery power.
This has got to be purchased and charged ,by somebody with very few financial resources, living in the middle of nowhere...

Satellite internet is ok as long as your are not planning to do anything where latency is an issue, however with a minimum 1000ms delay, things such as online gaming our impossible.

4.8 billion people not yet online
Online? The VAST majority live in squaller, and don't even know where their next meal is coming from.
