Paul: Still hope for immigration reform this year
The Hill ^ | April 25, 2014, 05:53 pm | Alexandra Jaffe

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) thinks there’s still hope for immigration reform this year, but only if Democrats are willing to negotiate.

“People have to acknowledge that the Democrats, if they want it passed, have to make more of a compromise,” he said in a talk to students at Harvard's Institute of Politics on Friday.

Paul envisions that compromise as some sort of legal status — “status and a place for people here so that they can come out of the shadows, let them begin paying taxes, let them not be locked up and having them run from the authorities,” he said. But he said that status would not include the voting rights “that everybody wants.”

He said voting rights could come “someday,” but at this point in the debate the only reform he thinks could pass is a more stripped-down bill.

The Senate did pass a comprehensive reform bill last June with strong bipartisan support, but Paul voted against that bill — because, he said on Friday, it “doesn’t do enough.” He said the caps on different kinds of workers were too low to effectively deal with the problem.

“We can’t have a limit so small that it doesn’t encompass what the demand is,” Paul said.

Hopes for final passage of a reform package this year have faltered in the House, where Republican leaders have said they have no plans to bring up the Senate bill for a vote, and no alternative comprehensive reform package has emerged. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) seemed to confirm the slim chance for reform this year during a speech Thursday in his home district where he mocked fellow Republicans for refusing to tackle the issue.

"Here's the attitude: 'Ohhhh. Don't make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard,' " he told a meeting of the Middletown Rotary Club.

But Paul charged that the failure to move forward with reform lies partly with Democrats, some of whom he said are content to “keep beating up the Republicans on this” because it’s helping the party win the Hispanic vote.

“And then there are some responsible people on both sides who want to pass something,” he added.

The Kentucky senator concluded: “I still think something could pass this year. Some of it more than anything is attitude, that we treat people with dignity and respect and that we acknowledge that we were all immigrants at one point in time, that immigrants are an asset.”

“Paul: Still hope for immigration reform this year”

There has been hope for `immigration reform’ every year since 1986, the last time we were assured that immigration reforms were needed.
But the assurances were hollow and because of federal fecklessness, now the problem has metastasized. You critters aren’t worth your salt, yet some of you demand more money!
Rand, if you’re going to try and pull our .. legs, you might at least give us a kiss:
You, McCain, Boehner and your fellow Democrats don’t want “immigration reform.”
You want another amnesty. And to that we say, “Been there, done that.
“You don’t come to discuss the matter,” (as Elizabeth I said to Essex) “You come to rule,” and we say to you,
“No way Jose!”
Try some real `reform’—secure our borders, deport the criminals and enforce the last set of laws you critters passed.

Actually, Rand Paul is an idiot.
He now backs ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE, open borders,
and amnesty.

He COULD have taken a conservative position,
but that would NOT have put Cindy Sheehan in his column.

Has someone kidnapped the old Rand Paul?

Not sure. But all of these things are in accordance with the view I've always had of him.

Randy Man
Fact: Illegals PAY TAXES they pay withholding and SS, they pay property taxes through their rent, they pay sales and excise taxes. Stop lying they pay just not under their name.
Fact: They choose to live in the shadows because they are at home there.

Why fo you holed insist on giving away our country?
They are felons, invaders, criminals and they should never be granted more than a green card and a ticket to their home country.

Cruz Tries to Claim the Middle Ground on Immigration

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

“I have said many times that I want to see common-sense immigration reform pass,” he said.

You are going to spam Paul threads with attempted anti-Cruz posts?

Gee, you were in Singapore “a few weeks ago”?

After posting that dozens, if not hundreds of times, shouldn’t you update it to months?

Singapore has nothing to do with America and Mexico and Latin America in regards to immigration, why post it all?

Rand Paul is clearly an idiot, the more he speaks, the more weird and floundering he appears, no wonder he was a Romney man.

Because Singapore impressed the heck out of me.
Their Work Permits system eliminates illegal immigrants.
Because they know exactly where you work and live via the work permits. Employer can not hire anyone without a work permit. Rand Paul is in favor of the work permit system.

Singapore has practically no street crime. Drug dealers are given death penalty if convicted. So there is no drug problem. No jails, no cops, no judges, no bailiffs, no lawyers needed to enforce drug laws. If they catch you doing graffiti, or spitting in public areas, they flog you in public. No wonder the city looks clean.

Finally prosperity is visible everywhere. They have no food stamps or unemployment compensation programs by the government. Result? Negative 40% unemployment rate. Which means there are 40% more jobs than citizens. Those are filled by foreign workers on work permits.

US could learn a lot from Singapore, not from Mexico or S. America.

So they'll pay taxes but not be able to vote.

What's wrong with this picture?

Rand Paul is inciting millions more Democrat voters to cross the border.

It is highly immoral to import even more violence and poverty for all involved.

So Rand Paul basically admits they are not Republican and wont vote Republican but he is not sure how to make sure they never vote. He says voter fraud is hyped.

He is probably one of the more misinformed candidates on the issue.

I’ll stick with Rhodes Scholar Vitter for advice on the subject.

I think Mitch McConnell has been listening a lot to Rand Paul and Jeff Sessions and thinks he can pretend to be anti-amnesty until November to beat Bevin and Grimes.
