The United States and the European Union are expected to impose fresh sanctions on Russian individuals on Monday as a result of Moscow's alleged efforts to destabilize eastern Ukraine, sources familiar with the matter said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the EU was expected to name 15 previously unidentified individuals to be sanctioned and would focus on those whom it believes are responsible for the unrest in Ukraine.

All Russia has to do is turn off the natural gas valve to the E.U. and their backing of sanctions will fade.

...to impose fresh sanctions on Russian individuals

What a joke. It just shows how weak we are. Unless real sanctions are imposed, this is just more symbolism that will have no impact except for the US and EU trying to fool their own people that they are doing something.

Obama has increased respect for America around the world so much that Russia won’t even take our calls anymore.

It’s hardly a joke. Instead, it’s exactly like Romney going Rambo on conservative opponents during the 2012 primaries and then going limp against obama during the general election: if romney wanted to ruin obama, all he needed to do was be as ruthless as he was during the primaries.

obama is like romney: ruthless against conservatives, limp against tyrants.

Checkmate:

The Holy Grail for Moscow is a natural gas supply deal with China that is apparently now close after years of negotiations. If it can be signed when Putin visits China in May, he will be able to hold it up to show that global power has shifted eastwards and he does not need the West.

ONGC, Russia’s Rosneft may join forces on oil flows

Rosneft (ROSN.MM), the world’s top listed oil producer by output, may join forces with Indian state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC.NS) to supply oil to India over the long term, the Russian state-controlled company said on Tuesday.

In fact the most amusing is why Helen Mizulina was on list when the first round of sanctions took place. She has zero relation to what happens in Ukraine.
Her only known activity was pushing a homosexual propaganda bill and a criminal law reform, banning kiddie porn and imposing stricter punishment on pedophiles.

I don't understand what Romney has to do with this. We are talking about US foreign policy. It has nothing to do with domestic politics among candidates. Yes, the President is in overall charge of foreign policy, but Congress has input as do the national security agencies and NSC. This isn't between Putin and Obama, it is a matter between the US, our European allies, and Russia.

If Russia tries to take action against a NATO member, then it becomes a matter of war. An attack against one member is an attack against all.

I wonder what kind of advice and information Obama is getting from NSA, CIA, DIA, the NSC, State, and other members of the national security team. Congress as a whole has not passed any resolutions and a relatively few members of Congress are offering any alternatives. McCain, the Maverick, is still calling for the sending of arms to the Ukraine. The polls of the American people seem to prefer inaction and non-involvement. The Europeans are not that sanguine about taking any real action, e.g., tough sanctions, for fear of the impact on their fragile economies. In the short term, the Russians have the upper hand with their control of energy and the fact that they are on the borders of Ukraine.

What course of action are you supporting?

I am becoming convinced that the West aims to wage economic war against Russia because it has no other ideas left on how to keep their Kensian socialist system afloat. Look for news about how the Atlantic & Pacific trade deals currently being negotiated in secret are now urgently needed to combat Russian agression or some such nonsense. Watch for the usual group of neocon bobble heads and liberal fellow travelers in the vanguard of the HRC2016 campaign to raise their voices in a chorus of assent.

Putin may be just another SOB, but that doesn’t mean he is stupid. Or nuts.

Now, as for the Current Occupant, what is the definition of insanity, again? Something about continuing to do the same thing over and over, somehow expecting a different result.

Putin is SO much better at playing this game than The One. If only somebody had sat down and taught Current Occupant the basic art of diplomacy and statecraft....

-——the European Union ——

Are Swiss banks on board?

If not, there is no meaningful program. The fig leaf action will look like something is being done
