It's sad to see what's been happening with our government in recent years. Slowly, but surely, our rights and freedoms are being taken away. We thought our Constitution would protect us. After all, it was written to shield Americans from the abuses of government. But believe it or not, there are places in this country where the Constitution doesn't apply.

I’d heard vague comments about it but nothing this specific. This is DHS’s determination under the aegis of ‘national security’.

As far as I’m concerned it is perhaps the worst thing that George W. Bush ever did while he was in office (creating it) - second only to creating the TSA. Practically, neither have stopped, prevented, deterred, hampered, delayed or caught any planned terror actions by Muslim terrorists in this country. They have always been a reactive over-responder in my opinion.

The only area in which they are being proactive is in violating the rights of free American citizens.

Well, the Constitution definitely doesn’t apply at the White House.

Such things must come to pass. Which is no excuse, by the way. So called “liberals” are completely behind the government abuse of power, making a mockery of themselves, and some of us think they can be reasoned with. Sorry, but no.

"Are you living in a Constitution Free Zone?"

Yes. And ironically, it's called "The Constitution State"

The officer, from the Transportation Authority Police, pulled over the family (kids and all) for a supposed traffic violation despite the fact that they were not speeding. What followed was an ordeal where a police officer tried to get Filippidis to disclose the location of his handgun. How did the officer know that the man had a weapon? Filippidis had a concealed weapons permit for the State of Florida, however, had chosen not to carry his gun on a family road trip this December. Despite being told this repeatedly, the officer searched Filippidis and interrogated him in front of his wife and kids. To add insult to injury, they searched the entire car -- under the guise of reasonable suspicion. No due process and certainly no probable

But "the police are on our side." according to the FR jackboot licking brigade. How can something like this happen?

When the DHS was formed, it was supposed to be a bureau to ensure that FBI, CIA, NSA and local law enforcement were exchanging information about potential terror threats.
I don't recall anything at the time that suggested that DHS was to become a super-agency of its own, looming over and outranking all the others.

7thson:" I’ve never heard of the Transportation Authority Police and I live in Maryland."

It seems that they police the highways , airports , and the Port of Baltimore.

They parse the words of the Constitution where it suits them, interpret the ‘meaning’ where parsing doesn’t help their case, and in finality they just completely ignore them under the exigency of tyranny when neither is appropriate.

There are only three (3) constitution free zones that I know of:

1). DoD directives at military bases
2). Atomic Energy Act when NNSA/OST convoy commander declares it,
3). USSS special events of national security concerns

“As far as I’m concerned it is perhaps the worst thing that George W. Bush ever did while he was in office (creating it) - second only to creating the TSA.”

It is becoming increasingly clear to me that George W. Bush and Obama are just two sides of the same coin, serving the same corporatist authoritarian masters. I’ve even managed to get a few Obama supporters to tacitly acknowledge this.

I truly dread the notion of a 2016 presidential ballot pitting Hillary Clinton against Jeb Bush. It would have all the legitimacy of a North Korean election presenting a single candidate.

If that happens I just sit home that November.

No such animal as a "Constitution free zone"

And there is no authority granted in the Constitution to suspend the Constitution, enact Marshal law... or anything like it.

They only do this crap because they have people with guns... and when we wake up and realize that we have more guns and people than they do, we win, they loose!

but for all's edification I respectfully submit:

Marbury v. Madison 1803, vol 5, pg 137

It is also not entirely unworthy of observation that, in declaring what shall be the supreme law of the land, the Constitution itself is first mentioned, and not the laws of the United States generally, but those only which shall be made in pursuance of the Constitution, have that rank.
Thus, the particular phraseology of the Constitution of the United States confirms and strengthens the principle, supposed to be essential to all written Constitutions, that
a law repugnant to the Constitution is void,
and that courts, as well as other departments, are bound by that instrument.

The powers that be are well aware of this, it worked well for them in 2012.

Yeah...that’s the same old “you gotta vote for the RINO because they’re not as evil” line. It worked in 2008 and 2012. It won’t work any more.

They aren’t “powers that be”. They’re ‘second-tier powers that capitulate, appeasing over substance and principles.

Not buying that drivel any more.
