Reporter detained by Capitol Hill police for trying to ask EPA chief a question

A reporter has been detained by Capitol Hill police for trying to ask a question of Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy.

Bloomberg BNA energy reporter Ari Natter tweeted about being detained.

#transparency RT @AriNatter: I am being detained by Capital Police for trying to ask @EPAGina a question after her remarks. — nickjuliano (@nickjuliano) March 28, 2014 Natter was detained while covering the American Council On Renewable Energy conference, where McCarthy spoke. Also speaking at the conference was Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a staunch supporter of green energy who regularly takes the Senate floor to sound the alarm on global warming.

McCarthy spoke about renewable energy issues, including the EPA’s proposal to cut back the amount of ethanol refiners are required to blend into gasoline annually to avoid economic calamity. She also talked about the Obama administration’s view that energy and environmental policy go hand in hand.

“The energy issues and the environmental issues we are facing today are really two sides of the same coin,” she said.

Natter was eventually let go after police checked with their superiors and ran a background check on the reporter, determining he had the proper press credentials.

After consulting with his superiors and running a background check the police have let me go. — Ari Natter (@AriNatter) March 28, 2014 .@alexcguillen: Not the first time I have been threatened with arrest for doing my job as a reporter. Probably not the last either. — Ari Natter (@AriNatter) March 28, 2014

The reason why the Saudi payola epaers are reducing the ethanol in our gasoline is the damage it has done to small gas engines from day 1 and reports of damage to vehicle engines.

Ping me when ABC, NBC and CBS run with this as their lead story or when the NYT or WaPo make it the front page.

A longtime civil servant, McCarthy held the position of assistant administrator, U.S. EPA from 2009 to 2013. Prior to 2009, she was commissioner, Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, 2004–2009. She has held several top positions in the civil service of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including deputy secretary, Massachusetts Office of Commonwealth Development, 2003–2004 and undersecretary for policy, Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, 1999–2003.[8]
McCarthy graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology in 1976. In 1981 she received a joint Master of Science in Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy from Tufts University.[9][8]
A Boston native, McCarthy has worked on environmental issues at the state and local levels and has developed policies on economic growth, energy, transportation and the environment.[9] In her twenty-five years in public administration, she has been an environmental advisor to five Massachusetts governors, including former Governor Mitt Romney. From 2004 to 2009 she was commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. In this capacity she implemented a regional policy to trade carbon credits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.[5]
According to some observers, Obama’s selection of McCarthy confirms that he is serious about battling climate change. Daniel Fiorino, director of the Center for Environmental Policy at American University, says: “Her nomination signals that the president really wants to deliver on his State of the Union objectives to take serious action on climate change.” Despite speculation that this will affect Obama’s decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline, Fiorino believes that this doesn’t affect the dynamics of the Keystone decision significantly as other considerations are paramount, but adds: “... she knows air and climate issues very well and she’s a very strong environmentalist.” The EPA is one of the federal agencies that will advise the Obama administration on the proposed pipeline, “a project that would carry millions of barrels of bitumen a week from Alberta’s carbon-intensive oilsands to the U.S. Gulf Coast”.[10]
She was the direct supervisor of convicted fraudster John C. Beale.[11]

I agree Dave. I dislike ethanol for a host of reasons being used in our fuel tanks.

Stay out of DC.

Elect a pro-2nd Amendment, Constitutional sheriff in your county. If you conservatives don’t get that, you deserve the commie/Nazi jackboot on your throats.

I'm one of those peasants. I had no idea the propane shortage was caused by the farmers drying their corn crops for ethanol. Propane shortage linked to ethanol

Thanks for the info. Looks like the corn lobby is trying to convince the Environmental Protection Agency to raise the current mandated level of ethanol production and raise the level of corn alcohol in ethanol from the current 10 percent to 15 percent.

Idiots.

Thanks for the article link. I learned a couple of other things I didn't know, such as the September/October/November propane storage rotation, and that the bumper crop was actually late corn, that hadn't ripened.

As I've written before, the crazy people are in charge of US energy production. Plan accordingly. If you don't pay attention, they'll be nicking you hard on a rotating cycle for your energy use.

This year, it's propane. Next year, it might be fuel oil. Etc., etc.

Sorry to hear you got caught in the EPA-ethanol lobby gang-rape. :-(

[BTW - the EPA is also directly responsible for crippling or totally disabled most of the nation’s portable kerosene heaters.]

EPA has also outlawed most existing wood stoves.

ran a background check on the reporter, determining he had the proper press credentials.

Don’t they do this BEFORE they get access to the White House?
