A reporter has been detained by Capitol Hill police for trying to ask a question of Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy.
Bloomberg BNA energy reporter Ari Natter tweeted about being detained.
#transparency RT @AriNatter: I am being detained by Capital Police for trying to ask @EPAGina a question after her remarks. nickjuliano (@nickjuliano) March 28, 2014 Natter was detained while covering the American Council On Renewable Energy conference, where McCarthy spoke. Also speaking at the conference was Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a staunch supporter of green energy who regularly takes the Senate floor to sound the alarm on global warming.
McCarthy spoke about renewable energy issues, including the EPAs proposal to cut back the amount of ethanol refiners are required to blend into gasoline annually to avoid economic calamity. She also talked about the Obama administrations view that energy and environmental policy go hand in hand.
The energy issues and the environmental issues we are facing today are really two sides of the same coin, she said.
Natter was eventually let go after police checked with their superiors and ran a background check on the reporter, determining he had the proper press credentials.
After consulting with his superiors and running a background check the police have let me go. Ari Natter (@AriNatter) March 28, 2014 .@alexcguillen: Not the first time I have been threatened with arrest for doing my job as a reporter. Probably not the last either. “After consulting with his superiors...”
They called his Mommie on him.
No, No, No...the freedom of the press. This didn’t happen. She is lying.
And Georgiy Gongadze, a Ukrainian journalist, founder of a popular Internet newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda, wasn’t kidnapped and murdered in 2000.
That’ll teach him.
Gird your loins patriots. A nice little tussle might be just around the corner.
You know, unless the reporter actually assaulted or impeded this person (you know that they do this on occasion), I can honestly say that I would be every bit as angry about this if she worked for Greenpeace’s newsletter as I would be if she worked for the WSJ.
Papieren, Bitte! .................
(that is, he).
Ari, Ari,....Ari when are you ever going to learn? Little people do not question the kings court! I know that you as a reporter thought that you were just above the masses but,...what can we say? Try not to let this happen again. By the way, seen your dog lately?
Well come on, how dare this insect speak to a member of the Reich. Did Ms. Eva McCarthy immediately exclaim “It is speaking to me!”?
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
Dangerous times we are living in.
This incident, if they even have a single shred of ethics left, should send a chill down the spines of the liberal news media reporters, not a tingle up their legs.
For the list.
But it’s not a police state...
I very sincerely doubt that the percentage of EPA “officials” who could pass even a freshman level “physics for poets” course is above 1%.
The EPA is indeed a ship of fools.
And all members should be treated as such.
If anyone at all takes away such credentials, say for such a misunderstanding as the current situation, will such a reporter be excluded from government-related news reporting for the duration? That would certainly further media corruption, eh? (Until the backlash finally hits, of course. :) )
Actually very good. The more media people are harassed, spied upon, repressed, shut down and shut up - the more they’ll wake up. Some will wake up, others not unless they’re frogmarched in front of the firing squad.
The press has cut their own throats by being so supine before BO. These guys better get used to this. Couldn’t happen to a better bunch. Like to see how they present this to the J school classes.
It has always baffled me that the press is so lock step in their gutless pandering to BO and Dems. Forget honor and integrity. I would have thought that mere ambition would have driven someone to dig a little deeper, to say something different just for the distinction of saying something different.
And it is not like the drive by media world is so universally financially successful. Mere financial survival would suggest that someone try to say something besides the party line, if for no other reason than to see a few more papers.
Thanks Army Air Corps
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
...and now your on the list
They'd probably want to beat her Watermelon @ss.
Remember, the farmers needed to burn a lot of propane to dry their bumper corn crop this fall, so that the corn could be used to adulterate & screw up the gasoline supply.
This caused the propane shortage.
Thanks, Gina, you Elitist Commie b*tch!
I thought business men were the enemy of the EPA, looks like we will have to add reporters to the list.
Somebody needs an @ss-whipping for that one, too...
Catherine Engelbrech testimony on capital hill
Thou shalt not question thy high priests of big government. Climate change deniers shall be detained.
I like her!
Call me a skeptic but my hunch is reporters will continue to kiss Obama arse and lick Obama boots every chance they get....even this one that got detained.
” determining he had the proper press credentials.”
A First Amendment License, like a Second Amendment License to Carry but for approved journalists.
He’s lucky he wasn’t a “blogger”, eh?
Absolutely, it should.
Speaking of chills, I wonder if Tim Robbins ever feels that chill wind blowing these days?
Drudge should go sometime and see what happens.
Not only will the mods come after you, but I will have the NSA show up at your doorstep if you don’t add me. And I’d suggest you keep your dog inside, if you get my drift :-)
And to make sure the lesson was learned, he'll receive an IRS audit.
OUTSTANDING! Welcome aboard!
“I very sincerely doubt that the percentage of EPA officials who could pass even a freshman level physics for poets course is above 1”
Actually, you are probably too kind in your estimate.
Out in Californicator aka LaLa land every eviro whacko considers them selves to be geniuses re science. Most can’t do basic math and have zero knowledge of physics or chemistry.
The reason why the Saudi payola epaers are reducing the ethanol in our gasoline is the damage it has done to small gas engines from day 1 and reports of damage to vehicle engines.
Ping me when ABC, NBC and CBS run with this as their lead story or when the NYT or WaPo make it the front page.
And Michelle just got done telling the Chinese how wonderful our freedoms are.
In three more years there will be nothing left to save.
FUBO and your little henchmen, too.
It should send a chill down the spine of every American.
Can Ari Natter sue?
Never question authority.
Unless you're out of bullets.
A longtime civil servant, McCarthy held the position of assistant administrator, U.S. EPA from 2009 to 2013. Prior to 2009, she was commissioner, Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, 20042009. She has held several top positions in the civil service of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including deputy secretary, Massachusetts Office of Commonwealth Development, 20032004 and undersecretary for policy, Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, 19992003.
McCarthy graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology in 1976. In 1981 she received a joint Master of Science in Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy from Tufts University.
A Boston native, McCarthy has worked on environmental issues at the state and local levels and has developed policies on economic growth, energy, transportation and the environment. In her twenty-five years in public administration, she has been an environmental advisor to five Massachusetts governors, including former Governor Mitt Romney. From 2004 to 2009 she was commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. In this capacity she implemented a regional policy to trade carbon credits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
According to some observers, Obama’s selection of McCarthy confirms that he is serious about battling climate change. Daniel Fiorino, director of the Center for Environmental Policy at American University, says: “Her nomination signals that the president really wants to deliver on his State of the Union objectives to take serious action on climate change.” Despite speculation that this will affect Obama’s decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline, Fiorino believes that this doesn’t affect the dynamics of the Keystone decision significantly as other considerations are paramount, but adds: “... she knows air and climate issues very well and she’s a very strong environmentalist.” The EPA is one of the federal agencies that will advise the Obama administration on the proposed pipeline, “a project that would carry millions of barrels of bitumen a week from Alberta’s carbon-intensive oilsands to the U.S. Gulf Coast”.
She was the direct supervisor of convicted fraudster John C. Beale.
Don’t question the homo Dictator in Sodom on the Potomac or any of his butt kissers.
I agree Dave. I dislike ethanol for a host of reasons being used in our fuel tanks.
we don’t need no dirty stinkin’ questions from you pukes
