Obama Flies to A Europe Shaken by Putin's Bold Strategy
NBC News ^ | March 23, 2014 | By Tom Curry

resident Barack Obama flies Sunday to a Europe shaken by Vladimir Putin’s seizure of Crimea and his threats against eastern parts of Ukraine.

At a summit conference at The Hague on preventing nuclear terrorism – scheduled long before the Ukraine crisis – Obama will confer with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other leaders. On Monday afternoon Obama will meet with President Xi Jinping of China, Russia’s neighbor and sometime rival.

Putin has forced the United States and Europe to refocus on the origins of the modern transatlantic alliance -- the 1949 NATO defense partnership designed to prevent a Russian invasion of Western Europe.

“We live in a different world than we did less than a month ago,” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told an audience in Washington last week. Russia's aggression is “a wake-up call for the Euro-Atlantic community, for NATO, and for all those committed to a Europe whole, free, and at peace.”

Russian brute force is a jarring diversion from Obama’s second-term agenda of combatting climate change...

~~snip~~

Previous American presidents had occasional quarrels with European leaders, “but never were we faced with a kind of indifference that Obama seems to exude,” Joffe said.

~~snip~~

Obama said Thursday that “America’s support for our NATO allies is unwavering.

~~snip~~

“We are going to have to think very hard in Europe and in the United States about how we are going to respond to the Ukrainian government’s legitimate requests to have the wherewithal to defend itself,” said Francois Heisbourg...

~~snip~~

In a conference call with reporters Thursday, an Obama administration official sounded quite non-committal on arming the Ukrainians.

European progressives got what they wanted in 0bama, and gave him the Nobel Peace Prize for it. What they wanted was a more internationalist, collectivist, broadly left-leaning American leadership and an America less aggressive about protecting its interests over those of the Greater Good. There are a couple problems with that: (1) they have discovered to their horror that Putin isn't a progressive, and (2) a world with U.S. power in decline isn't actually more peaceful but less. A dose of reality has splashed against the fevered brow of left-wing dogma and the proggies don't appear to like it very much.

0bama isn't the answer. His entire political experience has coalesced around that sort of dogma. He isn't suddenly going to become George Washington, or even George Bush. He was, and remains exactly what the Left in Europe thought that it wanted, cheered for enthusiastically, and attempted to elevate to messianic status through press and popular culture as sycophantic and disgusting as anything Louis the Sun King ever enjoyed. Strap on your packs and pick up your rifles, boys - you wanted it this way.

Somebody else said this on another thread awhile ago but it bears repeating as best as I can remember it, to wit:

The President will address Putin in such a manner: "If you don't stop this right now, I'm going to yell STOP, yet again and if THAT doesn't work, I'm going to stamp my dainty foot! That'll show you!

“Hey EU then do something. Enough of this ‘Lafayette we are here’ crap. Been there, done that. We’re out of blood and treasure. Get off our dole.”

Yep. Time for the Europeans to put on their big boy pants and take care of business on their own.

They left out the part that mac daddy will be wearing depends when he meets Putin, don’t want to give Putin the pleasure of ROTFLHAO when a wet spot appears in the front of his pants.

Although how much of a difference would that make, the entire world is already laughing at him now.

They have already done it. They have shot themselves in the foot over their crazed environmental no energy development policy. They are so far behind the eight ball, they now have no options to play. All they can do is huddle in committee meetings and console each other. A pathetic example of bankrupt leadership and total lack of strategic vision.

The question is, will Vladimir Putin seize on the occasion of a major summit meeting of self-important Western leaders to officially seize the Ukraine — thereby making Obama and company look like an assembly of pathetic Lilliputians while Putin himself bestrides the world like a colossus?

Excerpt Obama’s Cairo speech , which transfixed liberal poofters internationally, creating the present US foreign policy debacle:

” For human history has often been a record of nations and tribes — and, yes, religions — subjugating one another in pursuit of their own interests. Yet in this new age, such attitudes are self-defeating. Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail. So whatever we think of the past, we must not be prisoners to it. Our problems must be dealt with through partnership; our progress must be shared.”

There is no “new age” and Europe will have to make Obama face that fact. We have either a fool or a traitor in the White House.Take your pick.
