No, House Republicans haven't voted 50 times to repeal Obamacare

It has become a truism that House Republicans have voted dozens and dozens of times -- at least 50 in all -- to repeal Obamacare. They have been obsessed with repealing the Affordable Care Act, President Obama told a Democratic National Committee meeting in Washington last month. You know what they say: 50th time is the charm. Maybe when you hit your 50th repeal vote, you will win a prize. Maybe if you buy 50 repeal votes, you get one free. We get it.

For more than a year, Democrats and their advocates in the press have been ridiculing the GOP's anti-Obamacare efforts. The House Republicans have voted more than 30 times to repeal Obamacare, White House press secretary Jay Carney said in March 2013. The House has wasted weeks voting more than 40 times to repeal Obamacare, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in October of last year. If at first you don't succeed, try 50 times -- Republicans [are] holding a 50th vote to repeal Obamacare, MSNBC's Al Sharpton said last week. Many others have said similar things.

The only problem is, the truism isn't true. The House has actually voted to repeal Obamacare in its entirety six times. Certainly Democrats think that is six too many. But it is not 50, or even close to 50. The rest of the votes -- there have actually been 54 so far

Somebody once said that Americans should never see their sausages or the laws made. I suspect that a bill frequently starts out as one thing, repealing the ACA, and gets riders added like immigration “reform,” anti-gun legislation, and/or a tax on (fill-in-blank). I’ve never heard of a clean bill that didn’t have lots of objectionable pork or something socially disastrous stuck on it. So, its likely that although the bill read “A bill to repeal the ACA,” it may have had other dire consequences making it something Republicans could not all vote for.

The only way to get it repealed will be when conservatives not only take both houses, but when Democrats realize they’ll all be out if they don’t cooperate and cut the clowning.

“The only way to get it repealed will be when conservatives not only take both houses, but when Democrats realize they’ll all be out if they don’t cooperate and cut the clowning.”

The only way to get rid of it is to defund it. They’ve had the power under the Constitution since January 2011 to defund it and haven’t used it. All they had to do was submit an annual appropriations bill with no funding for ACA and stand tough. The GOP would not stand tough so the ACA continues.

Denying they couldn’t kill it is like Obama and Hillary saying they didn’t know about Benghazi. Either you are accountable or you aren’t. The Constitution gives the House authority over spending and taxes. Spending cannot occur if the House doesn’t vote for it. Time to hold the Republicans accountable and stop listening to Boehner cry.

It sounds neat and textbook seventh grade civics. But they were thoroughly plastered when Cruz (God bless him) stood firm at the last impasse and shut down the government. The headwinds of the MSM and the nasty games Obama played made the people turn on the House. The House GOP can not afford to anger too many as they do need to get reelected. The Democrats managed the message and the Republicans took a beating in the poles. And, no, they can’t afford to ignore the polls. True, there are a few principled individuals, but you need the entire group to stick together and they won’t.

A manager told me once, the only way to change a bad rule is to force everybody to adhere to it. The longer we have Obamacare the more people are hurt. The weight of Obamacare now threatens to kill not just the Democratic party, but liberalism as a whole.

I do wish we had dynamic forceful Republican leaders, but we don’t. We have socialist lites. We the people must change the ACA by electing those people who will change it. When we have enough weight the Dems will join in out of self-preservation. The Dems may even find enough backbone to impeach, convict and get rid of the worst president we’ve ever had.

And. The House has done nothing to reclaim their Constitutional powers under Speaker Boehner. I detest Pelosi, but am confident if President Bush ruled by decree she would have stopped him in his tracks.

The GOP will make certain that RomneyCARE will REMAIN
the “law” of the land with government in the throat
and rear of every American — except the EXEMPT
and Moslems, of course.
