Republican Party Needs to Master the Message by Thomas Sowell
Real Clear Politics ^ | FEb 20, 2014 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 02/21/2014 8:05:27 AM PST by Innovative

"The Republican establishment has more than a tactical deficiency, however. They seem to have no principle that they offer or follow with any consistency. Their lack of articulation may be just a reflection of that lack of principle. It is hard to get to the point when you have no point to get to.

Ted Cruz filled a void. But the Republican establishment created the void."

It is definitely worth reading the entire article.

It provides a good analysis of the GOP deficiencies that need to be addressed if we want to beat the Dems in 2014 and 2016.

The GOP has no one in the leadership who can articulate any benefit to free enterprise, the rule of law, sanctity of contracts, security of borders or any of the principles enunciated in the Declaration or the Constitution. They are not familiar with them, they do not believe them, they do not understand them. To the GOP leadership it is a foreign language. We cannot expect them [and most of us don’t] to be able to argue a case in a language they cannot speak.

NO! It isn’t worth reading! Five or six threads on this jerk’s surrender and resignation to obscurity for the conservatives in this country.

Frankly, given what I’ve seen just today, articles by him should be frigging banned here.

Thomas Sowell is a conservative — I have no idea what you are talking about.

Or maybe I do, you don’t actually read what he says.

You are wrong. Completely. You don’t know what conservative means.

The GOP wants government almost as much as the Democrats. The GOP needs to be overthrown and re-commandeered by true Americans that hate big government and taxes and love freedom and the free market.

And the American People need to re-commandeer their country by adhering to American values, not politicians no matter who they are. The only language politicians from anywhere understand is, "Throw the bums out" if they do anything but shrink government and taxes.

Your statement on your home page explains it:

“I have checked out of the Republican Party and am now a scorched earth conservative. I do not care if the Republican Party acquires a majority in the Senate in 2014, or if they keep the majority in the House for that matter.”

So you are all for the Dems to take over and destroy the country.

“And the American People need to re-commandeer their country”

And just how do you proposed to do that?

That is what elections are for. If you are not interested in defeating the Dems, you are helping them, regardless of the rhetoric you are posting.

"Ted Cruz filled a void. But the Republican establishment created the void."

Mr. Sowell, since you've spent your week bashing Senator Cruz, may I respectfully suggest that you make up your mind?

And that is exactly the same kind of retreaded crap we’ve had to deal with through 2 Presidential Elections where media and the GOP have engineered go-along-get-along candidates who WON’T fight for conservatism and principles.

Sowell has been working overtime (probably because of an agitator plus-up contract to promote the GOPe status quo) to keep on with the same crap “you can’t change it if you don’t win.” Show me where they ‘won’. We have a Republican leadership that is falling all over themselves trying to not appear confrontational and upset Obama or the Democrats. Bend over and do it again, and again - maybe you’ll win if the Democrats commit suicide. BS!

Appeasing and apologizing for GOPe leadership isn’t conservatism - it is capitulation of principles.

And lastly, you can take your “so you are all for the Dems to take over and Destroy the country” and shove it. They are already doing that - with McConnell and Boehner’s avid help (cheerled by Sowell).

Exactly. That and more precisely, there is NO leadership at all with the GOP establishment. Leadership implies having a vision, a way to get there and influencing others to follow to reach the objective. The GOP wants to join a losing philosophy of bending the democrat liberal planks to brand as their own, thereby granting itself perrenial status as an amorphous UNIPARTY feeding from the DC beltway trough. The GOP is DOA.

I'm confused. WHO surrendered?

I'm trying to understand your violent reaction to this column, so will you please explain which part(s) of it you disagree with?

You have no idea?

Really?

This speaks very poorly for you. You really have no idea that this is the 4th attack on Ted Cruz by Dr. Sowell in the last 3 days?

This column is a pseudo above-the-fray ‘backtrack’ of his recent columns. I’m guessing he’s gotten a lot of flack over those, as well he should. I know I certainly don’t agree with him - at all on them.

On the one hand, telling us recently that we have to win elections to change things, and then in this article stay above it all and explain that Boehner just can’t speak English or other such nonsense is absurd. It is apologism under the guise of impartiality.

I’m tired of hearing about him. And I’m tired of hearing how “he’s conservative.”

No, what gaffer is saying is that this is not the first time this article has been posted. It’s been the subject of strong debate on FR for the last few days. You’d probably find it helpful to read through these. The first one is, iirc, the one you have just reposted.

You didn’t read the article either.

He is actually very complimentary about Ted Cruz.

One wouldn’t think of people posting on FR to be “low information voters”.

But I guess people just do “knee-jerk” posting and proudly don’t bother to actually read the articles.
