Yulia Tymoshenko, former Prime Minister of Ukraine, was subjected to a Stalin-like show trial in 2011. She was convicted for the absurd "crime" of exceeding her civil authority while serving in office. World leaders rightly condemned the indictment, trial, and conviction as unjust and a mockery of the rule of law.

The Ukraine is one of those places where I would love to see the “what if” scenarios. What if the Ukraine could have remained separate from the Soviet Union? What if the Ukraine had made it into NATO or the EU before Putin put the Russians back on the path to USSR II?
There is an opinion that knowing multiple languages expands your intelligence. Opposite applies also. And how do we call people refusing to learn even language of their own country?

Amen! I don't know how it is where you are but our typical local 'news' program anymore is maybe five minutes of "BREAKING NEWS!!!!" coverage of grass fires, car crashes, or upturned garbage cans followed by ten minutes of weather, ten minutes of sports, and five minutes of some pedantic 'human interest' story. Anything to avoid actually reporting any news.
