While I do think we could have helped the Ambassador and his staff, this map sure doesn’t prove it to me.
We’re talking some pretty impressive miles between the most important ships, and Benghazi.
Never was Dereliction of Duty more evident..
or a reckless disregard for life..
of US citizens sent to serve this nation’s interests.
methinks a conflict doth exist ..
in the battle for the soul of this nation..
just a hunch, who will answer the call?
if not the Pres__ent?
coastal city, lots of the ships have helis and security force personnel.. itching to get some ‘real time’ in.
the sad thing is, we’ll never know.
for a few more years , at least.
The HildaBeast must be stopped..
or we’ll never know.
Yeah, I don’t think a destroyer near Crete could accomplish much.
That map just shows naval assets.
Air assets out of Aviano could have been there in no time.
Do you see dozens of ships close to Benghazi? Why don’t you name them for us.
I agree.
What was available in Sigonella or Aviano? No tanker support? As long as the Benghazi debacle played out, there were military options.
Let me know how many hours it would have taken that destroyer to get to Benghazi when you have time.
Bunch of minesweepers, and patrol boats, if I recall. Why don’t you detail their offensive capabilities?
This story is unimportant according to democrats on left wing blogs, not worth the time. Now the Bush national guard story...That was important!!!
There is a theory out there, that if we had just made a low level pass or two, it could have caused the terrorists to leave the embassy.
If you believe the Bin Ladin story, our military flew 200+ miles south, had a 40 min firefight, bagged his body, flew 200+ miles north, conducted DNA and facial recognition testing, re-bagged the body, flew 800-1000 miles south to meet up with ship, unloaded the body, prepared it for burial at sea with muslim rituals.
All in 8 hours.
....but we could do nothing in Benghazi.
I didn’t see any names there tiger. You seem to have all the answers, so tell us the names of the ships that were there. You tell us their capabilities when you have gotten your facts together.
“IF I RECALL?” Extremely impressive. /s
to published top speed of a c-130 is 374 mph
distance from Benghazi to Crete is 347 miles... less then one hour.
use that radius to estimate hours from target... 6 hours being the max range to have responded within time
3 destroyers were easily in range. assuming c-130 stationed somewhere in Italy, it could have been done just looking at this map and assuming personnel that should have been available
My sentiments exactly. You just can’t point at a destroyer and expect to come up with a combat ready landing party. Most sailors have only an hour of weapons training.
Wonder if anybody checked for British or French support, or would that have been too embarrassing?
