What the hell has happened to the criminal justice system in America? This woman flies to New York City to appear on a nationwide television program and to convict and sentence on-air the ex-cop who shot her husband. And in another article her attorneys praise Westshore Pizza for coming up with thousands of dollars in donations for their client. Self serving SOB's. Guess who's getting most of that money? Plus the babe wife now gets her fifteen minutes of fame. If she was so damned concerned about her daughter she would be spending every minute with that child at home, not gallivanting around Manhattan appearing on freaking talk shows in glamorous attire and makeup. This tells me a lot about who these people really were/are. Not to speak ill of the dead but dollars to donuts hubby was a hothead "bad boy" type who mouthed off to anyone who came across as an authority figure. This is the kind of dude the wife got hooked on. Bah. So we can forget about the judge and the jury. We don't need them anymore. Right?

The bigger question is what was and is now her position on concealed carry (2nd amendment as a hole for that fact)?

The guy shot an un-armed man in a movie theater because he didn’t quit texting when told to. There is no justification for the shoot. NONE

"‘You make me so happy, Daddy so happy, Lexi,’ and she would say, ‘Me happy, too, Daddy, Lexi happy, too.’"

her daughter speaks in broken english? what child says "me happy too"

I am thinking hot-head guy, wife looking to cash-in, anti-gun lobby finds an attractive face they can parade around... Expect her to be the new anti0gun spokesman

Think very carefully about this- someone tells you to stop texting in a theatre- Do you say "OK, sorry I bothered you" and put it away, or do you scream at him and throw popcorn at him? There is more to this story

Not to speak ill of the dead but dollars to donuts hubby was a hothead "bad boy" type who mouthed off to anyone who came across as an authority figure.

In the movie theater the shooter asked the hubby to stop texting at least twice.

He wouldn't stop.

An argument ensued.

The hubby threw a container of popcorn in the shooter's face.

The shooter pulled his gun and that ended the texting.

Not saying the shooting was right or justified - that will be the job of the jury.

But there are some things a prudent person can do to avoid escalating a potentially dangerous confrontation and making it worse or even deadly.

This wasn’t exactly a cool move on the part of the widow, but this retired cop was a real pr**k and deserves the full weight of law comin’ down on him.

I agree with the woman and a also hoping he spends the rest of his life in prison. CCW does not mean you are the usher and enforcer of manners in the theater, telling others to not text during coming attractions.
CCW means you are the politest person there, avoiding confrontations over trivial provocations, yet ready to use deadly violence when some Aurora attack begins.

Apparently this crazy old SOB did the same thing hall monitor act some young woman the week before, going as far as following her to a restroom.

Guys like him are why gun rights are always in danger.

There are plenty of self righteous jerks on this forum and elsewhere who will shout for Reeves’ blood and whine about the dead guy being shot for no reason. However, had the deceased not been anoying Reeves and had not thrown popcorn in his face, he would not be dead.
It is for a jury to decide the facts, of which we are not in posession, regarding the guilt or innocence of the shooter. The crap this woman is pulling is self serving and poisonous.

About the "hubby"

Navy officials confirmed he served in the Navy from 1990 to 1997, reaching the rank of petty officer 2nd class. He had a clean record during his time and was last stationed in Jacksonville, Fla.

Link

I'm fairly certain he was no stranger to people of "authority."

type who mouthed off to anyone who came across as an authority figure.

Retired or active, police are not our masters and contrary to popular belief, they don't have the authority to pick fights in movie theaters and murder people.

This bastard tried to cause problems and harassed a woman in the same movie theater just two weeks prior. His "authority" was disrespected. It sounds like the retired cop, that started the area's first SWAT team is a jackboot hothead and is now facing life in prison, which at 71, shouldn't be too long.

I don't go to movie theaters because I can't stand people texting, the floors are sticky, and it seems like a general waste of money......but I'm not going to cause an altercation and escalating it to the point of killing a man and wounding his wife because someone sent a text message during the previews.

“So we can forget about the judge and the jury. We don’t need them anymore. Right? “

You really expect a widowed mother with a toddler, to not express that she wants him to spend the rest of his life in prison? That’s downright silly to expect her to sob quietly, avoid all comments, and possibly only opine that the legal system should do its job and she will be content with the result.

She might actually have strong feelings on the topic, She got hit by his bullets too.

The shooter/killer has a hot temper and had been stalking others over the same issue in previous weeks. He is an aggressive asshole who can not mind his own business. Too bad he had the special privilege of continuing to carry his firearm well after senility has set in. Life in prison is the minimum he should get. An early termination would be a more fair deal for the taxpayers.

This incident reminded me of a couple of quotes:

"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life."
- Robert A. Heinlein

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger."
-Proverbs 15:1

The entire fiasco was a tragedy. The ex cop was wrong, the arrogant victim was wrong, the wife for exploiting the incident is wrong. The ex cop won’t last six months in prison before someone shivs him. The wife and child will have to go on with their lives without a husband or a father. Just a tragedy all the way around, especially the way the MSM will exploit the gun angle of the incident. Never mind the fact that ex police get a pass for CCW.

Talk about a bunch of nuts. This thread is full of them. A man is shot in cold blood in a movie theater by an ex cop because the man was texting. The cop has ZERO excuse. He is a danger to society.

I have teenagers who might be stupid enough to text in a theater. Should I fear for their lives? My husband might have the need to respond to an urgent text in a theater. Should he DIE for that? Should he have to defend himself from a crazy ex cop and end up in jail himself?

And you sound like a disgruntled ex cop who puts pigs and authority figures on a pedestal.

Passing judgment on others we dont know is fun isnt it?

If only everyone acted like you, grieved like you, lived like you, then the world would be a better place, right? One big group-think utopia where empathy is only given to those who follow your rules and are deemed worthy.

Did you once stop to consider that she is mad as hell and taking any opportunity to voice that anger or were you too busy thinking about yourself and how YOU would deal with it, condemning everyone else for stepping outside the precious rules you live your life by.

How big of a twisted sociopath do you have to be to attack a shooting victim and widow for the crime of grieving in a way you dont deem appropriate per YOUR rules.

I hope the ex pig gets raped in prison daily for the pain he has caused this family. Their child now gets to be raised without a father and that will cause a lifetime of issues.
