The missing piece in the global growth puzzle (no consumer demand)
CNBC ^

Posted on 01/19/2014 3:42:01 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

"So many people – politicians, journalists, I'm afraid market analysts – sort of believe this story of an economics recovery going on around the world," Roger Nightingale, strategist at RDN Associates, told CNBC. "This economics recovery hasn't occurred. In fact, actually for the past 18 months people have been talking about it, the data is pretty flat. If anything, it's getting flatter."

....

"The conventional response, among economists, is that the government must take action to boost domestic demand in the United States, with either monetary or fiscal stimulus, or by redistributing wealth," he said in a note, citing the one-time status of the U.S. as the world's "consumer of last resort."

But the U.S. doesn't appear to be able to boost global demand much, Chovanec said. The U.S. Federal Reserve's massive bond-buying program may have prevented a credit collapse during the financial crisis, he said, but it hasn't done much to boost consumer spending.

It's like living in an Orwell novel where what your eyes see is the opposite of what you are told by the media/govt.

We probably need a new term for this combined talk of the media and government, something like MEDIGOV.

When the government takes all the money, adds regulation and taxes to stifle business, adds costs to essentials like energy, it isn’t about *demand*. It is about lack of discretionary income.

Perhaps the government could destroy the middle class a little more. That should get the economy rolling.

Minitrue was distinctly an arm of the government. I am referring to the merging of media and government.

Just wait until the employer mandate kicks in.

Socialism-Liberalism is an equal opportunity destroyer and no country ever regulated, spent and taxed itself in to prosperity and these people who run the show are too ignorant and dumb to see it. With some exception, most of them just care for their own well being.

And today's media is different how?

have you ever watched NBC news report on the Obama Administration?

The liberals treat economics like they do global warming. They can’t figure out how it works.

No $hit, Sherlock. This is what happens when you send all our high paying jobs to Red China and other Third world pits. The few cents an hour the Chinese get paid in their factory gulags can't stimulate global demand so the whole thing is going to grind to halt.

Free Traitors have ruined this country and the world, it seems. There will be retribution.

Me neither. My measuring stick is how many homeless people and illegals harass me at the Home Depot and 7-11. Now there are more of them, including whites.

LOL So when the SHTF, you're going after the ones who advocate lower taxes instead of the ones who have raised taxes and regulations so high that that is why our manufacturers can't stay here.

Well, bring it on, I won't look at you any different than I look at any other tax-raiser when the SHTF.

data is flat = 0 slope

If the slope is 0 it can’t get any flatter

The term I prefer is plateaued. The Economy has plateaued.

Or...... it has mesa ed.
the mesa is flat and just goes on forever

The people who run the show are not necessarily ignorant. They are consumed by an ideology, just like someone in a cultic religion.

This is what they want to happen. They think it is desirable until it impacts them the same way it impacts us.

Wealth and elitism so far have insulated the rulers from the effects of their mandates. It will eventually hit their children and their families, but it will take too long for them to understand the relationship.

Ask any prog. The reason for all the misery is that the GOP has thwarted Dear Leader and his cadre. DL and Co. only want good things for everyone and we would have them if the GOP and conservatives would stop obstructing./s

At some point, there will be no conservatives in power and only token Republicans. That is when the progs will begin to fight among themselves, purging those who are not sufficiently inculcated. That is the point where there will also be no more wealth left to tax and confiscate, no more businesses to regulate and the Perfect Communitarian State will collapse.

The prog leaders will quickly appropriate every bit of State
property that they can in order to emerge from the rubble with assets. Some capitalism will then emerge and the show trials of the oligarchs will begin.

Rinse and repeat.
