Has there ever been a better story? It's like a version of Titanic where first class cheers for the iceberg
Yes, yes, just to get the obligatory of courses out of the way up front: of course weather is not the same as climate; and of course the thickest iciest ice on record could well be evidence of global warming, just as 40-and-sunny and a 35-below blizzard and 12 degrees and partly cloudy with occasional showers are all apparently manifestations of climate change; and of course the global warm-mongers are entirely sincere in their belief that the massive carbon footprint of their rescue operation can be offset by the planting of wall-to-wall trees the length and breadth of Australia, Britain, America and continental Europe.
But still: youd have to have a heart as cold and unmovable as Commonwealth Bay ice not to be howling with laughter at the exquisite symbolic perfection of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition stuck in our own experiment, as they put it. I confess I was hoping it might all drag on a bit longer and the cultists of the ecopalypse would find themselves drawing straws as to which of their number would be first on the roasting spit. On Douglas Mawsons original voyage, he and his surviving comrade wound up having to eat their dogs. Im not sure there were any on this expedition, so theyd probably have to make do with the Guardian reporters. Forced to wait a year to be rescued, Sir Douglas later recalled, Several of my toes commenced to blacken and fester near the tips. Now theres a man whos serious about reducing his footprint.
But alas, eating ones shipmates and watching ones extremities drop off one by one is not a part of todays high-end eco-doom tourism. Instead, the ice-locked warmists...

Useful idiots. To some extent they’ve set back the AGW cause even if the media tried hard to deep six the hilarious news.
Steyn ping.
Amazing amount of ice for Summer time Antarctica
I am not convinced of this. Climate change, maybe - which is natural - but not AGW.
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
The sense of self-importance of your average member of Congress far exceeds the Sun.
Good gravy, that was hysterical!
Of course. God can cause any change He wishes and I think He is just having a good laugh on algore and his moneymaking minions.
Is the original ship still frozen in the ice, or have they managed to free it?
The original ships and the rescue icebreaker (Chinese) were both freed several days later when the wind changed direction. The US polar Star rescue was called off.
The original ship made it home while the evacuees are still waiting for a lift.
Leave it to Steyn.
Delivers a funny stand alone line while also sticking a (rhetorical) shiv between the pompous Guardian's shoulder blades.
Anyway, this whimsical episode of "global warming" scientists trapped in ice - in the middle of summer - got me to get around to reading "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing. This is the true story of Ernie Shackleton's Antarctic expedition back in 1915-16. Truly amazing story of human survival (in which many seals, penguins and dogs get killed - but not a single human!).
Of course, the nutjobs on that Ship Of Fools never read it or they never would have engaged in such folly.
Yes.
Ping again

Number of Americans Who Think Global Warming Is a Myth Increases
Global Warming on Free Republic
Comment of the Day
Maybe these people need to realize that there is a problem with the water not running over in Valley Forge, PA, yep the same site where the American Revolutionaries had to deal with below freezing temperatures and needed plenty of fires and crammed cabins for shelter over two centuries ago. Figures...
