Liberals find comfort level in 'NPR of gun clubs'
San Francisco Chronicle (SF Gate) ^ | January 2, 2014 | Carla Marinucci

Marlene Hoeber is feisty, tattooed, transgender, a self-described feminist, a queer activist - and a crack shot with her favorite "toys," guns of just about every kind.

One thing she's not - and proud of it - is a member of the National Rifle Association.

"We make ourselves a special place where we don't have to hear about the 'Kenyan Muslim socialist' in the White House," said Hoeber, a biotech equipment mechanic who says she's politically "somewhere around Emma Goldman," the turn-of-the-20th century anarchist.

Instead, Hoeber - whose array of firearms includes an M1 carbine rifle from World War II and a custom-made .44-caliber pistol - and other left-leaning gun lovers have their own organization: the Liberal Gun Club.

A good thing, says Hoeber, since she would never consider joining any club that has "Grover Norquist on the board," as the NRA does.

The NRA was not very political until they started passing ridiculous gun laws.

Yep, back in the day they trained young people to safely handle firearms and safely hunt.

I be one of 'em.

Why are they using the word “liberals” when I thought that these days they wanted to be called “progressives”?

Still, I didn't call it because these people may understand the political importance of firearms and the armed citizen and/or the armed sovereign individual

These people aren't real gun owner's; they're "plants". This story is staged to smear conservative gun owners and 2nd Amendment defenders.

Honest answer, I think they change their name every time the general public sees enough damage from their policies to tire of 'em.

Then they come up with a new brand name and a new program to accomplish the same old goals.

I believe that if gays did what regular folks do, keep their private business private, we wouldn’t be having these issues. But they insist on throwing their dirt in everyone’s faces in an effort to feel normal. A shrink would be helpful in most cases.

At least get the whole title correct, beast: it's the illegitimate, bisexual, Marxist Kenyan Muslim Usurper.

...At any rate, I am a conservative gun enthusiast and gun owner that will have nothing to do with the NRA. It has nothing to do with their politics, but it has everything to do with their business practices. The NRA will give your email address to hundreds of spamming companies and those companies will send you unsolicited and unwanted products accompanied by a bill with the NRA proudly endorsing the unwanted and unrequested product...

I have been a Life Member since the late 1970s and have never received any of this spam. I have no idea why your experience is so different from mine, but I suspect the spam comes from some other source than the NRA.

That’s why my first comment was a caution.

I don’t care to look at their guns, as long as they leave mine alone.

Simply. I will keep mine.......

I’m not going to get into any boxcar or on a train.

My neighbors feel the same way.

So stay away and leave us alone.

You may very well be right.

There is one paragraph:

The group also views monetary disincentives to gun ownership, such as ammunition taxes, as "class barriers" blocking the poor from exercising their constitutional rights.

A true statement and important concept, and the way a leftist would put it.

... the NRA was originally formed to give blacks in the South guns and the know-how to use them as protection against The Ku Klux Klan...

Fascinating, and useful info.

Might there be a link handy?

TIA.

Only the highly informed know that gun control in the United States had as it’s primary purpose the disarmament of emancipated Blacks post Civil War. Kudos.

Same experience with spam here, absolutely none, email or snail mail since the mid eighties. It might have to do with no annual membership signups?

This is the second time I have seen a FReeper claim that the NRA was spamming him or selling his email and address.

Tempted to call BS, but you never know how the address might have been leaked.

I was an NRA member but didn’t renew when they supported the re-election of Harry Reid.

Now, though, I can see how I was wrong. Reid was certainly a more powerful potential ally than Sharron Angle for their important single issue of second amendment rights. More than that, he and Pelosi brought us Obamacare, which has done more to educate the public about the consequences of the socialist progressive agenda, and the deception and deceit with which it is sold. Obamacare, as it collapses, will advance the re-election prospects of Republicans, which would never have happened without a Harry Reid.

I look at it like this: Chip Coffey is a psychic, been on a few episodes of Paranormal State. He’s gay. I think he mentioned it like a couple times on his Facebook page. Ryan Buell from that show is bisexual. He mentioned it once in his blog, and hasn’t addressed it since. Jim Parsons is gay, but he just goes about his business.
Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin I despise, because they make everything about being gay. I mean, at some point, its just, have some dignity guys. Zachery Quinto came out in an interview, he was asked are you gay, he said yes. And he then went on with other subjects, because where he puts his junk is not his sole focus. The only time he ever really talked about it was in an interview where they were asking him about a scene in American Horror Story, where his character was trying to get a lesbian to be straight. The actress is also lesbian in real life. The interviewer was all “how did that effect you as a gay man?” And he just talked about the scene without going into his sexuality, meanwhile, with clay Aiken, it would have been “well, as a gay man, it was difficult, because I’m gay. Did I mention I am gay?”
I realize this is rambling, but what I am trying to say us, I totally agree with you.
