Enrollments on Md. health exchange jump, though site still glitch

Gov. Martin O'Malley said Monday that 42,589 people had signed up for insurance through the state's health exchange as of Dec. 21—a jump of almost 13,000 people in a week—but the faster clip of sign-ups was temporarily stymied by more troubles with the website.

Users on the site were met midday Monday with a "service unavailable" message, and by afternoon a new message said: "We are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience."

The site came back online by 4 p.m.,and an exchange spokeswoman said there were two separate problems that may have been related to high volume of users.

Still, the problems frustrated users who face a deadline to sign up for coverage by Jan. 1. The deadline was initially Monday, but the four insurers on Maryland's online exchange agreed to delay the date until Dec. 27. One, Evergreen Health Co-op,delayed the deadline until Dec. 31.

Officials from the federal exchange, which serves consumers in three dozen states, on Monday pushed back its deadline until Christmas Eve.

The move gives consumers more time to sign up for coverage starting in the new year, though open enrollment lasts until March 31. That's when Americans can start to be penalized for not having insurance.

......Officials at the exchange have said that the numbers are preliminary and some of the Medicaid enrollees may be duplicates or they may not have submitted all of their required paperwork.

Dr...Beilenson, who runs Evergreen, said the site had been working better in recent days, with a small number able to enroll each day. But he said it still is unreliable,and that is frustrating for his clients. He has about 36 appointments a day with people who want insurance.

I heard on Fox News last night that the federal health care site received one million hits. I thought there could be two possibilities for this. First, this is a lie and we’ll find out the true numbers in about three months. Second possibility is all the die heart liberals are in panic mode and decided to sign up (like Obama)-not realizing the premiums/deductibles their going to have to pay.

If this is the first case, then the death spiral is already happening and this administration is trying to hide the fact.

If this is the second case, the liberals will soon find out they have no money by which to fund their liberal causes because of the substantially higher health care costs. They will soon get a very rude awakening and their health care coverage will be dropped. The death spiral will continue.

The O' kids were flying around to the Bahamas and Sun Valley.....while US kids were shut out of the WH supposedly due to sequestration Secret Service cutbacks. The O's galivanting teen daughter was spotted in NYC---with girlfriends---dining at the pricey Buddakan, scoffing up rock shrimp, edamame dumplings, short ribs, lobster fried rice........replete w/ five Secret Service guards dining nearby, while students her age were denied access to the people's house.

In liberal Maryland which set up the exchange....apprx 30,000 register for expanded medicare vs 10,000 who get private insurance.

Medicare will go broke and private insurers will not have a large enough base to spread the pain. Rates, deductibles, AND taxes will have to go up.

DU is crowing about how California’s website is working well, and signing up thousands a day. I’m sure there are glitches to that that story that they are unaware of, and unwilling to even consider, like payment issues. The New Year is going to be amusing to watch.

In a little over a week, people without insurance cards or any other proof of insurance will be visiting ERs, clinics, Dr offices and pharmacies. It shouldn't be too pretty.

My health insurance was cancelled by Obama and the Dems. Now they decide I can keep a policy like I had...except they have been made illegal.

“hits” as a metric was discredited about the time of the dot com crash in 1999. Turns out old-fashioned net profit still was the most important measure. In the case of obamcare, the only thing that matters is completed sales and who did the buying, two numbers the Obammnists are so far refusing to divulge.
