The other suspect then started grabbing money from the cash register.

As the suspects were leaving the business, a round was fired into the display cabinet. Near the door, police say that the suspect tried to fire off another round into the ceiling, only to have the gun fall apart.

Parts and live rounds from the gun fell to the floor, and the suspects ran from the store. Police say the two ran off in an unknown direction.

I never understood the idea that it was better for criminals to have better quality guns. If they prefered cheap, poorly made guns, wouldn't that be better for law abiding citizens?

Yeah. Maybe they ran straight up.

I certainly would like to know what make and model it was.

I used to have a Taurus Millenium PT-111 9mm I bought for my wife. The damned thing dropped the magazine every time the first shot was fired. I have never bought a weapon made by Taurus since then.

Brings an idea to mind. Buy a couple of cheap handguns and spike the barrel. Have one or two in the house and/or car and hope they get stolen.

sounds like my son’s Millennium. We wEre at the range and after about a magazine and a half, the little panel covering the rear-end of the striker mechanism just popped off. didn’t seem to affect the operation of the gun but after putting the cover back on he traded it for an XD.

It’s been so long since I had it, but if it’s like a Glock, etc, that cover is how you replace or take out the firing pin, etc. I know on a 1911, if that piece comes out, the FP comes flying out.

Didn’t see any description of the firearm in question. Maybe it was an el-cheapo “Saturday night special”?

Sounds like my old Davis Model D-32. Hard times forced me to sell off the armory. When a bit of disposable income started coming in, all I could afford was a $90 Davis semi-auto in .32 cal. Chrome plated POS. Chamber and barrel were out of spec. Rounds were key holing. The thing fell apart the very first time I needed it during a home invasion robbery. Lesson learned: save up and buy a battle proven weapon. Anything less will get you killed.

I love my Jennings. Some do have a tendency to break up like Comet Ison but not this one. Wouldn’t be my first or even fifth choice for a life and death situation but plinks fine. Definitely a step below the C9 in terms of as-delivered build quality though.

Just out of curiosity I watched this video:

I’m sure you know far more about firearms than I do, but $90 for that? Looks like something you’d get in a claw machine. Hopefully you’re better equipped now.
