Oprah, the self-anointed Queen of Everything Black, is back. This time we get a two-fer: She not only displays her personal pathologies, she also re-establishes her toxic-tribal bona fides among black people.
It’s a wicked mix: Damaging to herself and others.
During a recent BBC interview, Oprah pronounced that anyone who did not like President Obama was a racist. She also said “old” whites will have to die to end racism. To cap this pre-adolescent interview-rant, she adds that blacks are abused and disrespected the world over.
If these comments were just Oprah working through her “issues” again in a public place, then her remarks could be written off as typical comments from a racist. But Oprah is more than that, of course.
Oprah’s world view has no place for the decades of legal discrimination against non-blacks — affirmative action – that has victimized millions of people who have been passed over for promotions, or not even hired due to legal preferences for women and non-white minorities.
For decades black people have been given cuts-in-line in hiring and school admissions over non-black candidates who were more qualified.
We can discuss whether this is good or bad. Not whether it is true or false.
Oprah’s comments are just the latest in a long line of similar remarks from other celebrities that cultivate racial resentment: Racism is everywhere. Racism is permanent. You don’t have a chance if you are black. That is the mantra.
Then rap mogul Kanye West joined in, saying President Obama did not have the Jewish connections to become a successful president. The fantasies of persecution come from all quarters of the black chronic grievance industry, it seems.
This kind of institutional resentment represents the most profoundly powerful, false, and damaging ideas in the country today. Resentment is the most destructive emotion anyone can harbor. In my practice as a prison and private practice clinical psychologist, I have seen up close and personal the damage it does, and it is one of the top reasons people come for therapy.
Resentment stalls growth in anyone who is in bondage to it. Most people who sustain resentments reject personal responsibility for most all of their life choices and decisions. They believe they are given a pass on that pro-social, adult obligation.
Oprah did a great job in spreading – and reflecting – this resentment.
What can be the possible cause for someone with Oprah’s success to do such a thing? In a label: Toxic Shame. People who have suffered traumatic assaults as she did as a child – as we learn in her incessant autobiographies — being raped when she was age 9, among other gross psychological insults she endured, develop a sense of toxic shame that can dominate subconscious thinking for a lifetime.
At that early age, they absorb a pathological guilt for what happened to them, as if it was their fault. To a shamed person, their life is a mistake, regardless of the level of success, and they’re both fearful and angry about it.
Shamed people often develop eating disorders, most become very narcissistic, their religious preference is most often the narcissist-friendly “New Age” type, and they are prone to tantrums or rages.
They have a horrible time trying to establish a close and intimate personal relationship, and if they do, they become controlling, quarrelsome, and often, combative. In short, they don’t fall in love; they fall in sick. They’ll do most anything to keep from getting too close to someone, including sabotaging any positive bonding in the relationship. Many choose potential partners that are all but impossible to get close to. Others eventually choose to never get close to anyone – ever again.
When they explain what is tormenting them, real or imagined, at a particular moment they turn to pre-adolescent, “black and white” reasoning, the type that psychologists call, “splitting.” There are no exceptions in the minds of splitters, just like pre-adolescents. To them there are only absolutes. This compels them to often make blanket indictments against others even if there is no basis in fact.
The psychological defense of projection is also a common trait among the shamed population where someone blames others for what the blamer is guilty of. Oprah demonstrates this by saying blacks are abused the world over.
In Oprah’s world view, there is no room for personal responsibility for any of the pathologies that dominate black life in America today. Whether we are talking about crime, poverty, drug addiction, alcoholism, illegitimacy, HIV, irresponsible birthing, education, income; all these differences between blacks and non-blacks have one reason: White racism.
Then there are the America-wide assaults of blacks against non-blacks, especially against the most vulnerable non-black people such as the elderly and women. Someone should send her a copy of Colin Flaherty’s book, White Girl Bleed a Lot.
Her last psychological defense was her pronouncement that “old” whites must die to end racism. That’s called displacement, and with that primal declaration, she again regressed to pre-adolescence. The sadistic predator that brutalized her when she was a child just may be the real candidate for her wish of death on another. As a psychologist, I’d make serious book on it.
Oprah’s therapist or counselor, if she has one, might consider having her call when she feels the need to lash out at her pathology-based and distorted beliefs about non-blacks. Overall, she would do well for herself by canceling any future interviews regarding race and who should live and who should die.
This is not a prescription for public policy and debate. This is a prescription for serious and intensive therapy for someone who is in a lot more personal trouble that she sees so easily in others.
It may be even worse than you think - I have read several articles in the past that debunked her alleged child rape, that she had admitted it was a lie. If she never really suffered the abuse she once proclaimed, what pathology is that?
This is true, in part. The major part of that equation is that the young in this country still need to be constantly bombarded with the liberals' assertions that 'white privilege' is NOT a myth and is indeed a fact.
This is why Common Core's rewriting of history, homework assignments of children to 'identify' and 'classify' their racist parents, and the media are working overtime in 'socializing' our children.
What they won't say, ever, is that their dreams don't include equality; they consist of retribution and pure dominance - revenge.
If she were a conservative (and thereby sane), she wouldn't see these imaginary boogiemen.
But how will we muddy the water if we don't try to combine these two concepts?
Well... even IF that is true... She'd have to wonder ‘why’?
AND- to make matters worse, America's first and ONLY minority President falls flat on his face and bungles EVERYTHING he touches... instead of redeeming minorities and demonstrating for good and all that this global preconception about minorities is groundless!!!
What has “O” done right? I mean, Instead of whining and blaming all and sundry....IF he is so omniscient and omnipotent.... why can't he even transcend the, by NOW, VERY predictable and familiar milieu of American politics -the way every single President has had to do ... NO MATTER what his background or experience?? Besides, this President has had and continues to enjoy wholesale and unconditional media support and approval... WOW what COULDN'T a REAL politician DO with THAT kind of an edge!!!
Oprah needs to get over herself. She is showing how dumb she really is. Kayne we already know is.
Around 15-20 years ago I was flipping through the channels and landed on her show.The episode showed a dinner table discussion about a Oprah approved book. The book was about slavery and the fat one was droning on and on about it.One of the little white soccer moms at table was crying and saying I feel so guilty about this and feel so responsible.Oprah told her more or less “yes you are and you and your fellow whites owe blacks for what your people did.”
I saw right then and there her job was to brain wash the female stay at home moms and milk them for cash with her books and magazine and other products. Of course she hates her core audience of white middle class house wives but she has no problem taking their money while running her con game.
Fat and stupid is no way to go though life.
Racist is believeing a race is superior. That applies even if you are a member of a race that you feel is inferior. It is sad.
Hating people who are another race because of their race is just stupid, and evil.
She has been on a celebrity platform most of her life and has been a significant influence upon black girls and women. She's been shacking up with Stedman for many years when she could have shown those who would attempt to emulate her that marriage would give them two against the world instead of living lives with multiple baby daddy's and putting two incomes together to achieve a better life. Recently exhibiting racism toward old white people, she, like Obama, divides, and does not unify people, except negatively. She too formerly attended Reverend Wright's church.
She and Stedman are both homosexual.
Stedman has always been referred to as her beard.
If you were ever backstage on her show, going all the way back to the 80’s, you’d be surprised at her staff. All white.
Her day is done! I will never watch another film or TV show she makes—She hates me because I am white! I hate racism and will not put up with it from blacks as I will not with whites. My ancestors fought and died to free blacks from slavery—many didn’t return from the war and rest in southern dust. We have paid the price—they WERE abolitionists and paid a price for it too.

Oprah either is ashamed of bilking millions of dollars from white women who adored her or she is laughing hard enough to crack a rib over the fact that she snookered white women into believing in her.
She has made millions, spent some of it in very charitable pursuits, and she is still whining about ‘her plight’.
She wants to ‘older whites’ to die so there can be more racial harmony????
Well, when us older whites are gone, we will be replaced with the thugs who have created the “Knockout Game”..
I may be considered a little naive about the comparison, but I firmly believe that I have contributed much more to the USA society in my 74++ years than a single one of the thugs who are practicing the “Knockout Game”.
I have owned my own home since 1966.
I have paid all the property taxes & income taxes asked of me.
I have never been arrested for anything.
I got my last driving ticket in about 1982—speeding about 3 miles over the limit.
I have been employed all of my life—first by others, then self-employed since 1979 or so.
If I am an example of the ‘old whites who have to die’ by Oprah’s standards, then the USA will suffer for the loss of our efforts.
I probably didn’t use “The N word” is over 30 years. Since Obama is destroying this country, it is now common in my language. I won’t apologize for such use, either. For the first ‘black’ President of the USA to be such a complete failure is beyond disgusting. IMO, Barry has set back race relations in this country b y over 300 years....maybe more.
Blacks have a free education thru the 12th grade. The part they don’t seem to understand is that they have to attend the schools & do the homework & pay attention and learn something.
They are now a large segment of the USA community which is unemployable. They are not sought out by any company since they are troublemakers & not skilled at anything except harping about how ‘whitey puts them down’.
I contend that they have put themselves down.
They choose not to attend school.
They choose not to find any skills that are useful & needed.
They choose to keep destroying everything in their own communities & that cancer spreads further out into the surrounding area.
I have no words I can use here to describe my total contempt for Oprah and her singular one note song about how she & other blacks are ‘struggling’ so darn much.
Dealing drugs, being the best pimp on the block & harming others for profit isn’t a career-—but blacks seem to think it is. Neither is skateboarding- except for a minimum number of people. I studied in the same textbooks that were available to the blacks. How come I didn’t end up dealing drugs—being a prostitute—or worse?
Because I knew & was nurtured to believe that having a useful skill was my ticket to go where ever I wanted & to do what ever I wanted to do.
I have had a very interesting life, but I have absolutely NO SYMPATHY for the current ‘crisis’ in the black communities.
They are self-destructive & seem to have run out of victims in their own community & now are seeking white victims. Attorney General Holder has given them a constant ‘get out of jail’ card & has made it abundantly clear that he will not ever prosecute black on white crime.
Unless there is a hidden cache of black company owners & bosses that will suddenly emerge when the whites are ‘gone’, I only see a coming version of “Mad Max’ on the horizon.
It will be bloody & harsh. It might be called a race war-—or a civil war-—but it will be a war.
