Can Propaganda Heal What Ails Obamacare? - Disinformation is all they have left
American Spectator ^ | November 22, 2013 | David Hogberg

".....the Department of Health and Human Services touted a study by the liberal health-care group FamiliesUSA that purported to show that “less than 1 percent of nation’s non-elderly are at risk of losing their current individual market plan and paying more for insurance” on the Obamacare exchanges.

To get that one percent number FamiliesUSA assumed that everyone below 400 percent of the federal poverty level(FPL)is eligible for a subsidy to help purchase insurance on the exchanges. As the study claims:

The individual market covers 5.7 percent of the non-elderly population—a small slice of all insured Americans. The overwhelming majority of those people will obtain more affordable coverage under the health care law because they will be income-eligible for financial assistance to help pay for comprehensive insurance at a lower cost. Individuals with household incomes that do not exceed four times the federal poverty level($94,200 for a family of four in 2013)are income-eligible for either premium tax credit subsidies to buy coverage in the new health insurance marketplaces or Medicaid, which charges no premiums for most enrollees.

That is a serious flaw. As Sean Parnell and I showed in a study for the National Center for Public Policy Research back in September, many people earning less than 400 percent FPL will not qualify for a subsidy because of the way subsidies are calculated.

The subsidy formula is the price of the second lowest-cost Silver plan on the exchange minus the “applicable percentage.” Under Obamacare, the applicable percentage is the percentage of your income that you must pay toward your insurance before you qualify for a premium subsidy on an exchange. The applicable percentage is based on a sliding scale, starting at 2 percent for those with incomes at 133 percent FPL and rising to 9.5 percent for those with incomes at 400 percent FPL. So,.....

Dems seem to think the "keep it" debacle has no longevity, and that all will be forgiven. I beg to differ...and so does Congressional history.

The "keep it" lies (and DOA healthcare.gov) is reminiscent of the House check-kiting scandal---which broke in 1992 ---- and lasted til the House election in 1994---when 77 members lost seats, even in safe districts.

===========================================

REFERENCE---WIKI EXCERPT The House banking scandal broke in early 1992, when it was revealed that the United States House of Representatives allowed members to overdraw their House checking accounts without risk of being penalized by the House bank (actually a clearinghouse).

This is also sometimes known as Rubbergate (from the expressions "rubber check" (bounced check) and "Watergate)". The term is misleading because House checks did not bounce; they were honored because the House Bank provided overdraft protection to its account holders, the Office of the Sergeant at Arms covered the House Bank with no penalties......AKA the "congressional check-kiting scandal".

The scandal contributed to a perception of corruption and malfeasance and was a contributing factor to major changes in the House, in which 77 Representatives resigned or were ousted in the 1994 election. [3]

Four ex-Congressmen, a Delegate, and the former House Sergeant at Arms were convicted of wrongdoing as a result of the investigation that followed.[4] Among these, former Rep. Buz Lukens (R-OH) was convicted on bribery and conspiracy charges. Former Rep. Carl C. Perkins (D-KY) pled guilty to various charges including a check kiting scheme involving several financial institutions including the House Bank. Former Rep. Carroll Hubbard (D-KY) pled guilty to three felonies.

Former Rep. Mary Rose Oakar (D-OH) was charged with seven felonies, but she ended up pleading guilty only to a misdemeanor campaign finance charge not related to the House Bank.[5] The House Bank investigation also led to Delegate Walter E. Fauntroy (D-DC) pleading guilty to an unrelated charge of a making a false statement relating to a charitable contribution to his church. The former Sergeant at Arms, Jack Russ, pled guilty to three felonies.[6]

--snip--

In the early days of the scandal, when the media began reporting on the loose practices, then-Republican Minority Whip Newt Gingrich, along with 7 freshman Republicans referred to as the Gang of Seven or "The Young Turks", made the strategic decision to publicize the scandal in an attempt to sweep congressmen with overdrawn accounts, most of them Democrats, out of power; Gingrich himself had 22 overdrawn checks, one a $9,463 check to the Internal Revenue Service.[9]

Gingrich realized that far more Democrats could be implicated in this scandal than Republicans, so he made the decision to make the identities of all of those involved public and "let the chips fall where they may".

Jim Nussle, one of the Gang of Seven, came to national attention when he made a speech from the well of the House while wearing a paper bag over his head to protest the "shameful" ethical behavior involved in the scandal.[10]

Gingrich pressured the then Speaker of the House Dem Tom Foley to ensure that the special counsel appointed to investigate the matter informed the voting public of the overdrafts and the identities of all of the Congressmen responsible.[11]

As my dad used to say: they are full of BS and a yard wide.

All they have now is “rebranding” according to the Kenyan. His idea of “rebranding” is to change the verbiage. Ya see, your cancelled policy was not cancelled, it was upgraded into a plan with more benefits (may be not to you but ot others) and meerly will cost more with a higher deduction and limited provider network (because we know what you need).

The house should pass a proclamation they may consider not removing O care when the POS in the white hut and his family go on it.

They don’t want to heal it. They want the takeoff of the old Soviet style....”we’ll pretend to treat you and you pretend to get well”

They’ve started their propaganda machine. Juan Williams was invited over to the White House yesterday and came back with all the glowing liberal talking points; 1) it’s the insurance companies fault, 2) health insurance was substandard, 3) once people start buying insurance through the website they’ll see what a great deal they’re getting. Trouble is no one is buying any of these arguments-especially the liberal journalists that are losing their health insurance and don’t have a $7 million dollar contract with Fox News.

It’s getting pretty bad when the President has to call up people like Juan Williams, MoveOn, etc. to tout things they have never used. What’s surprising is how they can be such dupes. Whatever happened to critical thinking skills?

“............As Jamie Glazov, a student of the left, has observed in an article about the middle-class defenders of recently captured Seventies terrorist Kathy Soliah: “if you can successfully camouflage your own pathology and hatred with a concern for the ‘poor’ and the ‘downtrodden,’ then there will always be a ‘progressive’ milieu to support and defend you.” Huey Newton, George Jackson, Angela Davis, Bernardine Dorhn, Sylvia Baraldini, Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, Mumia Abu Jamal, H. Rap Brown, Rigoberta Menchu and innumerable others have all discovered this principle in the course of their criminal careers....

...But they are lying. When they defend racial preferences now, for example, a principle they denounced as “racist” and fought against as “civil rights” activists then, even they must know it.

The first truth about leftist missionaries, about believing progressives, is that they are liars. But they are not liars in the ordinary way, which is to say by choice. They are liars by necessity, and often, therefore, without realizing that they are. The necessity for lying arises because it is the political lie that gives their cause its life. ...

...If you believed that others could understand your truth, you would not think of yourself as part of a “vanguard.” You would no longer inhabit the morally charmed world of an elite whose members alone can see the light and whose mission is to lead the unenlightened towards it. If everybody could see the same horizon and knew the path to reach it, the future would already have happened and there would be no need for the army of the saints.

That is both the ethical core and psychological heart of what it means to be a part of the left. That is where the gratification comes from. To see yourself as a redeemer. To feel anointed. To be among the elect. In other words: To be progressive is itself the most satisfying narcissism of all.

That is why it is of little concern to them that their socialist schemes have run aground, burying millions of human beings in the process. That is why they don’t care that their panaceas have caused more human suffering than any injustice they have ever challenged. That is why they never learn from their “mistakes,” why the continuance of Them is more important than any truth.

If you were active in the so-called “peace” movement or in the radical wing of the civil rights causes, why would you tell the truth? Why would you concede – even long afterwards — that no, you were never really a “peace activist,” except in the sense that you were against America’s war. Why would you draw attention to the fact that you didn’t oppose the Communists’ war, and were happy when America’s enemies won?

What you were really against was not war, but American “imperialism” and American capitalism. What you truly hated was America’s democracy, which you knew to be a “sham” because it was controlled by money in the end. That’s why you wanted to “Bring The Troops Home.” Because if America’s troops came home, America would lose and the Communists would win. And the progressive future would be another step closer.

But you never had the honesty – then or now — to admit that. You told the lie then to gain influence and increase your power to do good (as only the Chosen can). And you keep on telling the lie for the same reason.

Why would you admit that, despite your tactical support for civil rights, you weren’t really committed to civil rights as Americans understand the meaning of the term – as rights granted not to groups but to individuals, not by government but “by their Creator”)? What you really wanted was to overthrow the very Constitution that guaranteed those rights, based as it is on private property and the autonomous person – both of which you despise.

Since America is a democracy and the people endorse it, the left’s “progressive” agendas can only be achieved by lying to the people. The unenlightened must be kept ignorant until the revolution transforms them. The better world is only reachable through deception of the people who need to be saved............” - David Horowitz

So the new democrat strategy is to p*ss on America and tell us it’s lemonade. It won’t work. Many people are apolitical, not giving a hoot about Fast & Furious or IRS scandals or Benghazi. But when they see that their monthly bill for health insurance has doubled and they have to cut back on spending in other areas to survive, they will certainly pay attention. And they won’t be blaming the insurance companies for their problems. They won’t even blame George Bush.

Hey, Mildred—does this lemonade taste funny to you?

Of course that’s true, but by then... it may be too late.

All the talk in the world will not blunt the personal financial shock of Obamacare. It will hit people directly in the pocketbook.

Young people will be forced to buy a product they really don't want at the prices offered, or suffer an increasing tax penalty on their much counted on tax refund.

Premiums will dramatically increase for everyone, whether your insurance is employer provided or otherwise. Bureaucrats will not be exempt. City, county, & state workers will have to pay much more for insurance just like the rest of us.

Every American will experience the inconvenience of long wait times for fewer doctors, fewer available hospital beds, & harder to get tests & procedures. Asked why things are so bad, doctors, hospitals, insurance companies are quick to point out it is the result of Obamacare.

The Rats have nowhere to hide. The media can't hide the cancellation notices & premium increases. They can't hide the tax penalties & loss of the family doctor.

They have messed with people's money, their privacy, their health & welfare, & it is working out bad, very bad.

Great summary.

All the hypothetical unicorn pooping Skittles propaganda won’t negate the fact that Nobamacare is a reality show filmed millions and millions of living rooms, hospitals, and doctors’ offices.

Do you believe what a bunch of political shills are spouting or do you believe your own eyes? That’s the bottom line.
