A Pentagon probe into the mishandling of hero Army Capt. William Swenson's Medal of Honor nomination found retired Army Gen. David Petraeus had sought to downgrade it, but shed no light on why the soldier's file was scrubbed from military computers and never passed up the chain of command.
Swenson, who was nominated for the military's most prestigious award for helping to extract fellow soldiers from a 2009 ambush in Afghanistan's Ganjgal Valley, was given the medal last month by President Obama based on a duplicate file. He and his advocates have expressed bitterness over the fact that his nomination was stalled for four years, and his papers mysteriously purged from Army computers.

Anybody know status of his application to return to Active Duty?
Betrayus may have been a great general, but he’s a sleezeball.
What the Sam Hill is going on?
Seriously, the Hussein administration is even shadier than the Clinton administration!
This is a Threat Matrix list documenting threats within and without. Anyone wanting on or off please advise.
I wonder if he recommended the downgrade before or while he was banging his pet lieutenant colonel?
Then, I was:
Then I remembered:
So, I smiled...
This isn’t the Pentagon. It’s the Army. The culture does not accommodate boat rockers. Evidently Capt. Swenson was quite vocal in his disapproval of the events of the day in question and the brass’s handling of it. The Army does not like that.
The Obama Administration IS the Clinton Administration.
It’s the arrogance of higher headquarters. The actual fighting is done by Captains and Lieutenants in the Officer corps. On the Enlisted side, it’s E-7 and below. There are some individual cases that are different and Special Ops is also different. But, higher headquarters are staffed and run by E-8 and above and Major and above. Now, there’s a lot of important work done by staff Soldiers at higher headquarters, but they don’t do a lot of shooting. This makes for a constant tension between “The Line Doggies” doing the shooting and “The Staff Weanies” who are doing the planning and coordinating and so forth. Every Combat Arms Soldier wants to think that he’s a steely-eyed killer. And the staff in Combat Arms units are predominantly Combat Arms Officers. The staff feels under-appreciated by the units, and the units feel under-appreciated by the staff. The staffs are composed of older Soldiers who should understand their duties and not be jealous of the personnel in the units. That’s how it’s supposed to work. But, staff Soldiers are human beings with all the emotions that humans have. This just serves as another indicator to me of what a small man Petraeus is.
He was not a great general because he opened himself to bribery and control through his immoral act of adultery and that might explain why he slammed hard left for obama.
Petraeus came into the Army when Captains and above were all wearing their Vietnam era decorations. Petreaus and his contempories didn’t have any of that and they resented those who did. Hence Petreaus’ pride in all of his largely meaningless fruit salad.
“Been trying to warn you. petraeus is a louse. He belongs in Leavenworth and should have been there long ago. This is minor compared to some of the crap he’s pulled.”, Please Elaborate...
Agreed. But everyone and their brother knew how this was messed up and they quietly brought up the topic time after time. Once Petraeus was ‘fired’....suddenly, this got really easy to pass around and approve. That tells part of the story. Bottom line....some leaders failed miserably, and the Army wasn’t going to say a word about that.
Told me not to trust him when he joined the obama administration. Guilt by association. I don’t trust any democrat, anyone in the obama administration, most government employees, most Republicans and 98+% of the media.
She’s got man’s hands.
I’ve been reading The Aviators by
Winston Groom, a biography about Eddie Rickenbacker, Charles Lindbergh and Jimmy Doolittle. I should probably write a review on it and post it here, but suffice for now to say that it’s a great great book that should be read by all. If you have a Kindle, read a sampling.
The most striking thing about these three men, among many other things, is their integrety, honesty and courage, making me wonder if there is any one currently in our country who comes close to any of them.
Do we have any heros in public life these day, and true leaders? Surely, there must be, but where are they?
Petraeus is a coward who would not be worthy to shine these men’s boots.
Petraeus and Broadwell violated the Honor Code they had both taken at West Point.
But now, with the introduction of no holds barred homosexuality into the armed services, the whole Honor system has fallen apart to where the academies themselves are in Honor violation.
Petraeus and Broadwell can claim they anticipated this breakdown so, no foul.
democrats love that kind of duplicity.
I think political correctness has really become pervasive.
Patton came close to being fired by Ike a bunch of times, but Ike knew he was THE kill shot when it came to battle.
These days Patton probably wouldn’t get into West Point.
I second your list.
