The Illinois House of Representatives voted Tuesday to allow same-sex couples to wed, ending months of delay over the issue in the Capitol and clearing the way for Illinois to become the 15th state, along with the District of Columbia, to permit gay couples to marry.
The vote was 61 to 54, with two members voting present.
In Illinois, we tried civil unions and that separate status has time and time again proved to fall short, said State Representative Greg Harris, a sponsor of the bill, urging his House colleagues to approve the measure Tuesday.
The measure passed the Illinois Senate in February, but for procedural reasons it had to be voted on there again. On Tuesday, the Senate quickly approved changes the House made to the bill, sending it to the desk of Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat who has said he will sign it. Illinois couples could begin marrying June 1.

I’m so glad Wisconsin’s ban on homo marriage is etched in the Constitution and was upheld.
Why would they want a gay marriage to their governor?????
WTH???!!! How did this happen? It was defeated last time with a resounding outcry. Scumb8g black politicians not listening to their own damn constituents!
I regard each and every fag-marriage state quite expendable. Get hit by a natural disaster? Attacked by another 9/11 attack? To hell with them. Their depravity can keep them warm.
Said politicians got a stern talking-to by their DEMOCRAT party leaders, including future employment possibilities if they did NOT vote for homo marriage this time.
The fix is in. Always is.
All manner of depravity is now blessed. It will not end until it is illegal for an adult man to marry or be married to an adult woman. We will all soon be assigned our new gov’t approved spouses.
People doing something wrong trying to get it okayed by the general public! If they had anything okay, they’d present it!
“WTH???!!! How did this happen?”
NOTE: TOM CROSS is running for IL Treasurer; DAN RUTHERFORD, (whose last vote in the IL Senate was YES to Civil Unions) is running for IL Governor.
The debate raged for over three hours with SB 10 with supporters of the bill filling the time with a constant stream of emotion, personal testimony, and accusations of discrimination. Those who spoke out in favor of natural marriage included Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), Rep. Dwight Kay (R-Edwardsville), Rep. Tom Morrison (R-Palatine), Rep. Mary Flowers (D-Chicago), and Rep. David Harris (R-Mount Prospect).
Former House minority leader Rep. Tom Cross (R-Plainfield) joined two other Republicans, Rep. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) and Rep. Ed Sullivan (R-Mundelein) in breaking with the party platform and supporting the bill.
Why would someone want a gay marriage to the governor? Isn't he already married?
SB 10 will go to the desk of Governor Pat Quinn who has publicly expressed his eagerness to sign the bill.
Doesn’t matter. A state that voted for Obama twice and border 3 gay marriage states, the population will eventually vote it in just like they did in Maine, Washington, and Maryland.
Though likely the Supreme Court will beat them to it. They will simply enforce faith and credit clause, and make marriages from Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois count in Wisconsin. A twice Obama state will not put up a fight.
There is not risk for them, African Americans love socialism more than they hate gays. The people who went for Obama by a 95% margin are not going to do anything to stop this.
“I regard each and every fag-marriage state quite expendable. Get hit by a natural disaster? Attacked by another 9/11 attack? To hell with them. Their depravity can keep them warm.”
That is extreme. Many states this was forced from top to bottom in spite of popular resistance. Besides if you are not living in a gay marriage state today, you will be living in one 5 years from now thanks to Supreme Court.
If the Supreme Court tries forcing homo marriage on my state, I’ll be unequivocally supporting secession, and do everything I can to contribute to the demise of the pathetic and deviant shell of what proclaims to be the USA.
