BAGHDAD Ten car bombs targeting Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, hit on Sunday morning. All 10 bombs went off within 40 minutes, starting from 9:30 a.m.
Forty-one civilians were killed and more than 100 others were wounded, according to security and medical officials. Ambulances rushed to hospitals and security forces tightened measures around checkpoints to search each passing car, creating a traffic jam.

Arabs will never be able to govern themselves.
I guess, then, the Iraqis should do something about it...no? It is their country.
Yes, and many suffered severe wounds as well.
Islam sure has a lot to be proud of.
We rebuilt schools, infrastructure, give girls the chance to get an education...
Did Allah hate his people this much? Makes you wonder.
4486 Americans died to give these people a chance.
It only took one to throw it all away.
What a waste of men and money. At least Hussein was a counter balance to Irrran. Ain’t hindsight wonderful?
Islam is a cancer on the face of the earth. It’s being allowed to metastasize by an extremely weak western civilization.
Liberals think they can “corrupt and coopt” it like they have done everything else.
they knew that before they went after him
the whole point is to destroy israel and us
and usher in the caliphate
Sad, but true. Some people, especially Arabs, are fit only to be ruled by despots.
Lesson learned...Never get involved in another intra-Arab squabble again, like we did in the first Gulf War.
And also, we need to gain our independence from any resources in that region...it isn’t worth it.
Good. Ungrateful crazy bastards deserve each other.
They miss The Butcher of Baghdad.
Europe's dream of promoting the euro as a competitor to the U.S. dollar may get a boost from SADDAM HUSSEIN. Iraq says that from now on, it wants payments for its oil in euros, despite the fact that the battered European currency unit, which used to be worth quite a bit more than $1, has dropped to about 82[cents]. Iraq says it will no longer accept dollars for oil because it does not want to deal "in the currency of the enemy."
Thousands! And we're still getting them from Aftganiscrap.
"Islam sure has a lot to be proud of. We rebuilt schools, infrastructure, give girls the chance to get an education... Did Allah hate his people this much? Makes you wonder."
Doesn't make me wonder. Some peoples just don't understand liberty or freedom of choice. Like someone said above, "some people just need despots to rule them". That's why I have always said that I'm a culturalist. Some are better than others in their interaction with civilized cultures.
But then, our "reality show" culture is going to pot, also. The only reality show I watch is the car cable channel, Velocity. BTW, I just purchased a 1958 Chevy Impala with fender skirts and a continental kit on the back. It's not show material, but a VERY clean driver with a recent rebuilt 348 with tri-power (remember tri-power? If so, you're probably one of the few on FR that does). The rest of the power train is also new, along with new suspension.
Awaiting it's delivery like a kid on Christmas morning. Knowing your age, thought you would appreciate my excitement. Want to buy a 2000 Corvette (only 51,000 miles & always garaged) so I can make up some of the cost for my retirement? Har!
Take care old Patriot...I still enjoy your posts. You always make sense and cut to the bone.
Not sure what you mean, Vet. If you're talking about the "community organizer", we were already scheduled to pull out of Iraq before he soiled the Oval Office.
The Iraqis just don't know how to deal with their new found freedom. Just doesn't work for their culture. They WILL revert to totalitarianism (probably Islamist). Aftganiscrap is even worse since they consist of countless local barbaric tribes that will never get together.
Don't get me wrong. I now believe we have lost so many good young men and some women in Iraq and not sure we should have deposed Saddam, other than bomb his WMD's.
Aftganiscrap with the Taliban that was supported by al-Qaeda was righteous, but they will never be able to govern themselves peacefully. It's against their religion that dictates their culture.
The middle east will always be so until some western nation decides to kill them all in whatever given country that attacks us again. And no, I don't care about collateral damage. Better their children than ours. Think Dresdan, Hamburg, Hiroshima, etc. It stopped those pri*cks, but killed a lot of civilians. Again, better them than us.
Sorry to sound so harsh, but I want my grand-children to grow up in a worry free world, even if our own socialists are screwing things up. Why we and Israel are allowing the crazy mullahs to develop nuclear weapons is beyond reason, not to mention North Korea.
“better them than us” Dam right.
You suppose they don’t think that way?
mozlums are not worth ONE American’s life.
Sunnis bombing Shi’ites probably.
Too late — we have a Petrodollar deal with the Saudis that makes us their mercenaries.
And the mind-boggling STUPIDITY of that idea still makes me want to throw up.
None of which was any of our business.
It was all so stupid, it's absolutely disgraceful.
Yes, I meant the community organizer.
Perhaps if we had stayed in Iraq for thirty years like
japan and germany they might have come out ok.
Afghanistan is another story and I have my doubts of it
EVER becoming a unified nation. Still I’m not there
so have no first hand experience.
No, I don't. They are a cult who think if they destroy western civilization and die in the process, they will have 72 virgins and mucho grapes and olives in green pastures. They are insane - they don't care about mutually assured destruction (MAD) like the Russians or China or India. Not sure about Pakistan.
Iran WILL build nuke bombs. No one is stopping them. Once they build enough to counter Israel's arsenal, the crazy Mullahs will launch. I'm 63 and bet I see it before I leave this rock.
Those people needed Saddam to keep them under control and from blasting each other to bits. They need the threat of government force to tone down their violent, savage natures.
Now that they have “democracy,” there is no restraint and we’re seeing just how brutal, uncivilized and violent they are.
Several years ago I angered some family members by saying that these people would never be able to live in democracy. I didn’t apologize, and now it’s obvious that I was right.
For decades, Iraq gave $$$ to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers. Payback is a bitch!
The Japanese quickly learned their lesson when they found out their Emperor was not a god that couldn't stop an atomic bomb and didn't want more of their children to die. Nazi Germany learned their lesson from the world devasting their so-called "master race" and they also cared about their survival.
Muslims have been conquered time and again, but never learn their lesson. Their cult religion tells them it's a GOOD thing to die. To paraphrase a statesman about the Middle East, "When Muslims learn to love their children as much as they do death, then peace may be realized". There in lies the problem with Islam as opposed to other totalitarian regimes.
BTW, thank you for service. Viet Nam was a righteous war to stop communism until the politicians and media screwed it up. I've read much about the Tet offensive and even General Giap admitted that he was ready to fold after the failure of Tet until he continued to watched our media and hippies. It's in his memoirs - sure you've read it. Another waste of our boys.
I find it sad that communist Viet Nam and China are becoming more capitalist by the year while we head more towards socialism, with communism on our doorstep due to the takers. The world is laughing at us, even the French who have outlawed burques. Remember when we used to make fun of them for being "surrender monkeys". Now I have more respect for their fedgov than our own. Be well.
And Iraq is now within Iran’s orbit. What a waste.
THE most succinct explanation of what is unfolding...
Thanks Pan_Yan. World’s Smallest Violin ping:
As Iraq seeks U.S. arms, bombs kill another 55
Japan and Germany had well-developed civil societies and were not Islamic. Also, they had a vested interest in siding with the US and the West, as the only other alternative was Soviet enslavement. None of this was true of Iraq.
Hate to say it, but Iraq under Saddam was far more stable than this mess now.
We spent massive amounts of American blood and treasure... and for what?
Exactly. Muslims, being the chaotically violent, subhuman species they are, need powerful, iron-fisted rulers such as Saddam and Hafez Assad to keep some semblance of order and prevent them from destroying everything around them. Muslims don't understand participative governance... they understand brute force. It calms them and gives them a sense of security.
I couldn't agree more. That region, and the muslims within it.. are not worth a single drop of American blood.
I would even go so far to say we should have let Saddam have Kuwait....Why do we get involved in intra-Arab squabbles, Kuwait was just an invention of British map makers anyway....And they did get caught red-handed “drinking Saddam’s milkshake.”
Do you understand the difference between “Arabs” and “Muslims”?
Do you understand the difference between Arabs and Muslims?
Sha’ab and Ur again. I spent quite a bit of time in those neighborhoods. Sha’ab is fairly dense urban, Ur has some urban but also a lot of open, undeveloped ground. Sha’ab is also kind of the ghetto. We always got harassed by Jaysh Al Mahdi out of Sadr City in there (they didn’t like to attack us in Sadr City since that’s where they lived).
Muslims run every Arab country, maybe Lebanon used to be Christian, but that’s not the case anymore.
I’m happy to,expand it to Mudslimes.
