Step back for a moment and consider the political implications of a US govt default vs. 0bama's standing among the media and in turn, the low-info voters.
Consider that everything 0bama has ever done is always political. The advancement of his party and ideology of a state that "requires" people being told what is in their best interest.
There is absolutely NO RISK for 0bama (politically) to preside over a US default.
Do you think he is going to fold ?
Why should he ?
Do you think he actually cares about America ?
Do you think he cares about his "Legacy" ?
The media has his back.
This is the biggest opportunity to seize control, an opportunity that may never come around again.
The opportunity to send the entire global economy into turmoil. Send millions of people into the arms of the Government.

If he does want a default he is an idiot because the reality is that Democrats are in control of the Presidency and the Senate. Its hard to make the case that its the GOP’s fault when a bipartisan group of GOP and Democrats have agreed on and passed several bills to avoid the shutdown and the “default”. Also once in default mode the President then has the ability to decide what will or will not be funded. That places him on point. If he lets veterans and social security go unpaid but funds his pet Obamacare and other nonessential crap he will be in the spot light. The GOP of course could drop the ball and maintain a fetal position but the world will not end and the buck will stop with Barack Obama. Even in states like New Jersey the President and Democrats are getting well over 40% of the blame for the shutdown. If the GOP were better and didn’t have anti-cheerleaders like Peter King and John Tokyo Rose McCain doing the Democrat bidding the outlook would be even better.
We're already in a state of civil war. Most Americans simply refuse to recognize that fact.
The rest, absolutely refuse to consider that the tree of liberty is dry and withered and have no plans to refresh it - because that would take risk and work none are willing to expose themselves to. There is NO EXCEPTION in all human history - that when a government and ruling class of people DEMONIZE a specific group of people, that government ALWAYS criminalizes and then eliminates that group.
And by "eliminate" I mean KILL - as in genocide, cleansing, etc. All done under the color of law.
Obama WILL default - and then decree the government stop paying it's bills so as to maximize pain on the people and get them to turn en masse against the Conservative Tea Party movement and applaud any 'emergency powers' he claims in order to 'restore things to normal'. You just watch. The GOP Ruling class has already greased his skids towards criminalizing the TEA Party.
They just need an excuse. Default may give Obama what he wants - justification to do what he has really intended.

They have already blamed the GOP and specifically the TEA Party and Ted Cruz and Mike Lee by name for it. That narrative will ratchet up ad nauseum.
I would like to add to my belief.
Please consider the following.
How would a US default benefit 0bama and his party ?
I’m not talking about a Civil War, I’m talking about the process that will allow him to gain greater control.
The first reaction to a default would be an almost instant and substantial devaluation of the US Dollar.
This “reset” of the US Dollars standing as the “worlds” reserve currency will be lost.
In turn, US manufactures will experience a huge increase in demand from oversees. This will allow 0bama a victory in achieving a doubling of output.
These manufactures will need to hire to meet demand and will also be more willing to pay the extraordinary tax to repatriate funds. BTW, they will be hiring more Union “Workers”.
The dollar destruction is just a small part of the process to move US to a Fascist State.
Corporations will fall in line since their profits will likely skyrocket.
There is a feedback loop that will encourage crony capitalism and the creation of a “Workers paradise”.
There is so much more.
This is not yet Communism, it is Fascism with the government controlling private enterprise.
For the greater good.
The first step to political control is the achievement of economic control.
This economic control “MUST” and can only happen with willing participants in the private sector.
First consider two things:
1. - Obama hates the country and intends to destroy it (fundamentally transformed).
2. - Obama has already enacted and imposed Fascism which has gone unchallenged. From the GM bailout to the takeover of student loans and the ongoing takeover of healthcare.
Now let's ask your question - how would a default benefit Obama and the Ruling Class?
First and foremost he gets to nullify the Constitution and essentially neuter and suspend Congress - specifically The House of Representatives.
He get's to ascribe to himself, the power of the purse by so doing.
He can then arbitrarily decide what money gets spent and on what. he can then, with that precedent, raise taxes on his own authority - as he does by using his Alphabets to impose regulations and taxes outside of Congress.
We are moving fast into a time where unless you think and act like a MarxoFascist - you are not going to be able to buy or sell. A hallmark of despotic and genocidal men and their utopias.

As I’ve noted on other threads, I think it is likely that he does want default.
- He doesn’t care about his legacy - he only wants to bring our country to 3rd world status and bring in Marxism.
- With the media fully behind him, and all the Dems, he knows he can force us to default making sure the evil Republicans get 100% of the blame.
- He can use the default to declare martial law, having already paved the way building local police depts. into war units and removing most conservative upper officers from the military.
- He knows there are not enough true conservatives in gov. like Cruz and Lee to bring about any serious kind of protest, and that a majority of our nation will welcome his dictatorship.
I think the odds of the above being true are at least 50%.

That is an interesting idea but I doubt that is the way it would shake out.
He only needs to neuter the current republican congress, temporarily, until he can get a majority in both houses.
At that point the constitution won’t matter to him.
He will have virtually unlimited spending power.

Sure I’ll admit it. :-) The flaw I see in your idea is you assume everything will go according to Obama’s conspiratorial plan. They wouldn’t be screaming so loud if they wanted a default something that would mire the President more than anyone else in DC.

If republicans fold, government spending will increase and we will see a “slow” continuation of 0bama’s building of a nanny state.
If republicans hold firm, 0bama will capture the accelerated implementation of the nanny state.
