Walmart shelves in Springhill, Mansfield, cleared in EBT glitch
KSLA ^

Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits.

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended. Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen. Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food. Lynd says at 9 p.m., when the cards came back online and it was announced over the loud speaker, people just left their carts full of food in the aisles and left.

"Just about everything is gone, I've never seen it in that condition," said Mansfield Walmart customer Anthony Fuller.

Evans believes it was natural human reaction that led people to fill up their carts during the glitch, but Walmart shoppers Stan and Judy Garcia feel very differently. "That's plain theft, that's stealing that's all I got to say about it," said Garcia.

The irony is that elements in the dependent population get out of control when they lose their food stamps for a few hours. Meanwhile, government storm troopers were barricading veterans from access to their memorials.

So let’s say someone gets $100/month on their EBT. And suppose they just spent $700. Does this mean they get nothing for the next seven months? Or will the government just eat the loss? Or even make Walmart eat the loss?

Black Friday?

How racist. Every day must be black day.

Walmart will probably have to eat the loss, being the difference between what they allowed people to buy, versus what they had on their cards.

It would have made more sense to limit EBT cards to $50, but then they would have risked "civil unrest" in the aisles.

Mine either. But that must be a bias built into white people. Because I see few honest blacks. Sad but honest truth. All they do is steal or stand around watching their brothers steal.

Have to wonder if this wasn’t intentional. Obama turns off the EBT just a few days before the debt ceiling expires so we can get a glimpse at what his army will do if we stop the redistribution.

Intentional or not, this is a good glimpse of what will happen. Now imagine the mob arriving and the Wal-Mart is empty, in other words, day two after EBT.

Not only that, but I will bet anyone that they will not even issue a strongly worded statement against these "people". Why any company would wish not to offend this segment of the population is beyond me. If they had any sense, they would offend them so they never come to your store again.

No. The government would make WalMart eat the loss, most likely.

Yep Walmart were dumb - a simple announcement over the PA that EBT card spending will be limited to $50 or even $100 would have meant that most of these people would not have got off the couch to run down to Walmart - cause you know the word got out on their Obamaphones!

WalMart is gonna take the loss on this and keep their mouth shut. Here in my little town about 40% of Walmart’s grocery bidness is from EBTs.... Nationally, Walmart receives between 25 and 40% of all EBT grocery dollars.
