700,000 people a day would have been visiting the parks and that the surrounding areas are losing $76 million in visitor spending per day.
The park service said it is losing $450,000 per day in revenue from entrance fees and other in-park expenditures, such as campground fees and boat rentals.

I say let the states run the parks permanently, and get the feds out of our lands!
Maybe the gov’t should sell off it Billion Bullet hoard.
Maybe the gov’t should sell off its Billion Bullet hoard.
It costs money to say “hey ranger, get out of the way and let us in”?
What would happen if possible unintended consequence of the Presidents current plan of attack.
The shutdown continues federal funds earmarked for the states are withheld; the states decide to withhold state taxes owed to the federal government and instead use them to fund projects/activities the feds should have been doing.
Its a win/win. Citizens realize that they dont need the federal government as much as they have been led to believe. The states regain some of the rights they have lost to the feds. The feds get less money in the coffers, thus starving the beast.
I would not pay for a service not rendered, so why should the states pay for federal services not rendered.
A hog finds an acorn once in a while. A small group of us at FR have been saying the states should use Eminent Domain to take control of the parks within their borders permanently. Since the fed is offering, they should take control of the parks and not give them back.
Of course - they’ll only do it if the states “fully fund” federal agents.
Isn’t that nice of them. After all, we’ve already paid taxes toward maintenance of national parks - and now they’re going to make the states charge us again?
Only in Øbongo’s AmeriKKKa
If the states pay to open the parks the first order of business should be to boot out the park rangers!
They pay for them, they own them. It’s hard to see any rollback from the federal government owning everything to be a bad thing.
I’ve been saying that since they started to shut them down. And closing down the Memorials....Bet it’s as illegal as hell.
Why do I have to pay for an entrance fee to go gaze at a tree I own?
At least twice : Entrance fees, your federal incomes taxes, and ...
I guess we got in just in time. My wife and I visited all the Utah parks, as well as Crater Lake, in mid-September. I’d have been powerful pissed if we had pulled the trailer all the way fro NW Washington and found the parks all closed. And the missus has a way worse temper than I do.
de-nationalize the parks!!
how much does it cost to kick some cones aside ?
Bolt cutters are in more than a few vacationing cars.
We'll do it for free.
It's an unauthorized tax
FYBO
The entrance fees of $450,000 per day should help ?
I’m sure they tested this in focus groups and it tested horribly for prezzie...
