The International Security Assistance Force did not identify the nationalities but the four were Americans killed by a bomb in the early hours of Sunday, U.S. defense officials said.
Also in southern Afghanistan, a security guard shot a soldier dead in a separate incident, Reuters reported. It wasn't clear what nationalities of the guard and the soldier were.

Few things anger me more than sacrificing the best our country has to offer in a war we’ve already decided to lose.
RIP, soldiers. Your country is proud of you.
And Sandra Fluke will be more famous than these true heroes.
Reuters said that if the gunman turns out to have been an Afghan security guard for coalition troops, it would be the ninth insider attack this year bring the death toll of foreign personnel to 14.
That is down dramatically from last year, when a spate of so-called insider attacks prompted NATO to curtail some joint operations with Afghan government forces.
That's not very reassuring.
Identifying the "good guys" in Afghanistan is problematic to say the least. We've built them a military that their government can not support without huge amounts of western money and is infiltrated at every level by people who are either our sworn enemies or will change sides at a moments notice.
Just read on FB by an Army wife that death benefits are not covered with their pay? Uh, Boehner, we are at war, remember?
I never could figure out why we went into Afghanistan. It would’ve made so much more sense to keep them in their third world cesspool, and us stay as far away as possible.
This is why the Constitution is so clear on a formal declaration of war. It needs debate as to the purpose, goal and limit of military action on the part of Americans.
Secrets usually exist to protect decision makers from embarrassment.
There was a good reason to go into Afghanistan - to conduct a punitive expedition for hosting OBL and Al-Q. We should have been out in 18-24 months, and never started the meals-on-wheels phase, which is essentially what we have been engaged in since.
Prayers up for these brave men and their families.
Even in the best of times, Servicemans Group Life Insurance takes a while to pay. There will be Casualty Assistance Officers assigned to each family. The families will not be forgotten because of this shutdown. It’s a “Brothers and Sisters In Arms “ thing.
I think we’re taking so long to get out because of all the equipment we have left there. Contract a bunch of flatbeds and cargo ships. Send over enough people to drive everything out. Tell the bad guys and the nations that have to be traversed that there will be a steady flight of B-52s over the convoys and they will be armed with neutron bombs. Anybody gets in the way, we attack with neutron bombs. Once we’re out, we will then come back and punish you with the big firecrackers. What? They already hate us. Protect our people and equipment.
Even if the government isn't.

bring them all home....now....
this nation is just too buy worrying about their next SS check.....
They know it, too. A saying went viral.
“America is not at war.
The Marine Corps is at war;
America is at the mall.”
RIP.
We have no more business there and should have left a long time ago.
To spread goodwill and cheer throughout the Muslim world. They would all love us. The thoughts of a Yale/Harvard educated postmodernist.
