The U.S. Department of Agriculture has turned off its entire website in response to the government shutdown, leaving farmers, reporters and others with no way to access any of the agencys information online.
A visit to usda.gov sends readers to a funding lapse page that reads, Due to the lapse in federal government funding, this website is not available. After funding has been restored, please allow some time for this website to become available again.
USDAs total website shutdown goes far beyond the response of other federal agencies, and seems to be part of an effort to make people feel the effects of the shutdown. Thursday morning calls to USDAs press office seeking an explanation were not answered.

Buy some raw milk, see if they storm in.
Sounds like a plan.
I’ve been eating unprocessed eggs for a number of years now and am still here.
Great idea Ray! The armored Janet mobiles will be there in 2 shakes!
Unprocessed eggs??? Eggs are processed?
Another useless department. Shut it down. Permanently!
LOL...love it!!

“turned off its entire website in response to the government shutdown, leaving farmers, reporters and others with no way to access any of the agencys information online.”
Why would farmers access the USDA website? The USDA keeps pestering the farmers about farming which those bureaucrats at the USDA know nothing of except making more regulations which hurt farmers.
Maybe they could send some of the barrycade gang over to the USDA!
Every one who knows anything about the internet and web sites knows that you can die and the web page will be there until your paid in advance time period runs out.
All of those web sites are paid for in advance unless they have their own server.
You might not get live replies to questions, but most web pages have info set up in pages so most answers to questions can be found.
So that site could run for months with no attention.
As for news items, like corn or cattle prices, I suspect they only need one or two guys to post that info.
So it is all a huge lie.
It does demonstrate that we have a monster in the red house that takes no mercy on little people.
And we are the little people.
good!
Yes, i started a post earlier today with this exact point about different sites. It’s redirecting for no good reason.
Census sites (including statistical info) are down too.
Frankly dear, ...
Each state has its own Department of Agriculture, so why is the USDA needed?
‘Splain that, Lucy!
They are progressively shutting down parts of the NOAA site and their general operations.
One of there major facilities with hundreds of employees has sent everyone home but the director.
Parts of the earthquake sites are showing shutdown warnings of slow or non posted updates.
Lets see if oil stops pumping and food stops processing.
Given all of the pernicious thuggery and rampant pork spending that the USDA has been into in recent years, it would be best to just let the place stay closed.
we have a monster in the red house

Indeed, we do. I keep wondering how far it will go.
Now’s the time to send in your fake pig-farmer discrimination paperwork. They’ll be rubber stamping approvals once the shutdown is over. $50,000 each.
“So, tell me about raising pigs.”
“Well, you just pick them off of pig bushes, I guess.”
“Close enough. Here’s your check. President Obama and the Democrat party thank-you for your efforts. Remember to thank them back.”
