President Barack Obama said Friday that new exchanges for private health insurance under Obamacare will open next week as scheduled even if there is a government shutdown, adding: "That's a done deal."
In a congressional version of hot potato, the Senate on Friday passed a short-term spending plan that would prevent a looming government shutdown and sent it to the House for a weekend showdown between Republican tea party conservatives and their more moderate party leaders.
The 54-44 vote on strict party lines came after Senate Democrats pushed through an amendment to restore funding for Obamacare that House Republicans had eliminated in their version of the spending measure, which would prevent the start of a government shutdown on Tuesday.
Now House Speaker John Boehner must decide whether to urge his divided Republican caucus to vote with Democrats to pass the Senate plan, or yield again to a hardline conservative wing that demands making continued government funding contingent on undermining Obamacare.
Cruz loses filibuster bid
President Barack Obama, who has criticized Republicans for their attacks on his signature health care reforms, will make a previously unscheduled public statement at 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday, the White House announced.

So nothing changes, everything still happens - why is this called a shut down?
Peter King TRASHING Ted Cruz on Blowhard O’Reilly. How nice of the bloviator to give this creep airtime.
What train did Peter jump off?
Cowardly Senate passes the buck to the cowardly House ... the ping pong game begins.
To scare the little people of Stonehenge.
Peter King, “Ted Cruz is a phony! I have no patience for him! We made a mistake letting him get out front!”
Listening to this guy cry is actually quite fun.

Yeah. For some reason the hoi polloi aren’t lining up behind King. Maybe he should rant louder.
Or, as someone noted on another thread, the chance that we could even shut down the entire government, even for a day, is about the same as Hell Freezing over.
Many many cowards.

When was the last time McConnell used the Filibuster (the only real power he has)?
If not now, when?
Well we none should show up to sign up....but of course the freeloaders will first.....I say lets protest at the sites they are signing up!
This TV station ripped off the story from CNN. It was posted here on FR as a CNN article earlier today: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3072058/posts
Ted Cruz the junior senator from TX actively whipping votes in house. You may cheer him on but Obama will not ovrturn his signiture legislation. The end game is obvious. The government shuts down republicans are blamed and the party gets hurt. Does it cost the house? That may depend on the debt ceiling.
When this all plays out and republicans cave, and they will cave, everyone will go after a scapegoat and lock that person out. I wonder who that will be? The large donors and rank and file will exact revenge. That is what happens to failed leaders of a coup.
I may cheer for Ted but I also weep. The end is obvious to me.
44 votes? So 25 wusses can go tell their mommies what good boys they were. Next they’ll go boom boom in the potty.
And even if he doesn't, I'll keep sending him back as long as he keeps on doing what he's doing. He won his senate race when Dewhurst had a lot more money and the GOP-E blessing. It will be hard to exact revenge on Cruz. Because I'll keep electing him.
He's still got 5 years and 3 months to go, anyway.
Defeatism is a lousy way to go through life.
