Obama calls Boehner, rules out debt negotiations

President Barack Obama is once again warning House Republicans that he will not negotiate over a debt-ceiling increase, even as the U.S. government moves closer to its borrowing limit.

Obama called Speaker John Boehner Friday night to reiterate his hard-line stance. The Ohio Republican’s office said the president called to say “he wouldn’t negotiate with him on the debt limit.”

“Given the long history of using debt limit increases to achieve bipartisan deficit reduction and economic reforms, the speaker was disappointed but told the president that the two chambers of Congress will chart the path ahead,” a Boehner aide said in an email. “It was a brief call.”

A White House official said Obama spoke to both Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“The President telephoned Speaker Boehner and told him again that the full faith and credit of the United States should not and will not be subject to negotiation,” the official said in a statement provided to POLITICO. “The President reiterated that it is the constitutional responsibility of the US Congress to pass the nation’s budget and pay the nation’s bills.”

So let me get this straight. Zer0 picked up the phone and called Boner to tell him he is not going to negotiate? So don’t negotiate. Why bother calling.

Exactly what I was thinking.

So the government shuts down.

It happened in 1995, and somehow we survived.

Personally, I'd like to keep getting paid, and I have no doubt that since I'm an active duty Soldier, my paycheck is the very first thing on the chopping block.

I am just asking, are you sure about this?

What if Obama waves his magic wand and by EO or EA orders his Secretary of the Treasury (who ever that may be) to start selling all of those bonds that have been purchased under QE3. This is not appropriated money, but money that the treasury has tied up in the stock market.

How many billions of dollars is this in fake phoney QE money ?????

I would not anything past this Mooslim goat humper who is trying to destroy America. Acomplish two things, crash the market and bring down the house.

Because he assumed Boehner would cave immediately.

Well let’s see now, who is he not going to be allowed to receive their pay checks: those on Social Security, Retired Military, Active Duty Military, the disabled, retired fed workers, post office employees, other gov employees. But you can bet that the homeless, illegals, funding for Islumic terrorists weapons, Obama phone, etc. will continue.

Congress did its job and did just that. It's the Senate and POSUS that are shutting down the government.

I was active-duty in 1995... Unless something has changed, the military continues getting paid.

I'm not so sure:

OBAMA: MILITARY WILL SEE DISRUPTION IN PAY IF CONGRESS DOESN’T RAISE DEBT CEILING, PASS BUDGET

Freedomworks references some guidance that says military pay continues.

Interesting write-up, but there’s nothing there that makes me feel any better about this.

It says military won’t be furloughed. I totally agree with that—we’ll be forced to come in to work for free.

It then says about pay cessation: “if the past is any indication, active duty servicemembers are not likely to miss any paychecks.”

The “if” and “not likely” don’t take into account Barack F’in Obama who clearly hates the military with a passion.

I do wonder, though, if the House will go with the single department spending bills as a counter-move to the inevitably Senate and White House stonewalling to the as-is CR. That could get interesting.

How come nobody is playing on the air again and again just how uncooperative and non-compromising Obama is being?

He wants absolute everything for himself or its somehow our fought if we won’t give it to him? Obama doesn’t even want to work for it! Obama wants us to create all his bills and do all his work for him.

The last time this “budget battle” went on, weren't there promises to reduce government spending so as NOT to have to continue to increase the debt limit (something Senator Obama said was "un-American)??? Maybe if Obama and Mooch reined in their OWN unlimited spending on all their vacations and he stopped sending taxpayer money to terrorist groups, we wouldn't HAVE to keep raising the limit!
