Washington Navy Yard shooting: Aaron Alexis was treated for "serious mental illness"
Associated Press ^ | September 17, 2013 | NA

WASHINGTON (AP/WJLA) - The deadly attack at the Washington Navy Yard was carried out by one of the military's own: a defense contract employee and former Navy reservist who used a valid pass to get onto the installation and started firing inside a building, killing 12 people before he was slain in a gun battle with police.

Sources also told the Associated Press that Alexis had received treatment for serious mental illness, including "hearing voices."

The motive for the mass shooting - the deadliest on a military installation in the U.S. since the tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009 - was a mystery, investigators said.

But a profile of the lone gunman, a 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, was coming into focus. He was described as a Buddhist who had also had flares of rage, complained about the Navy and being a victim of discrimination and had several run-ins with law enforcement, including two shootings and a disorderly conduct citation in Georgia...

Anyone know what his political registration was? I’m sure it wasn’t Republican because that would have already been reported if it was.

He was from Texas right?

We have to wonder if this killer was treated as a ‘special’ category because of his melanin content. Would a white Navy reservist with the same history and mental symptoms still have a security clearance? Just askin’.

The WSJ also reports the perp was a “hardcore drinker,” which could easily explain the anger, and perhaps the video game binges, and perhaps more than that. I’d love to see stats on how many crimes are committed under the influence of alcohol. Some stats suggest that most of them are.

From the WSJ blog:

“Mr. Alexis was a “hardcore drinker,” he said, and was also skilled in videogames, which he would play for marathon sessions that lasted hours. “

Many or most accounts say that he used a false or stolen pass to get onto the base. Not so.

Now, why would the press so insistently get that wrong? Could it be because they don't want to discuss why this shooter continued to have access to the base long after his clearance should have been removed? The authorities, probably at a pretty high level, were responsible for ignoring his long and very public problems that should never have allowed him to buy a gun or hold a secret security clearance.

Anyone reminded of Nidal, the very similar shooter, who should have been kicked out of the military long before he went on jihad?

Obviously, these were two blatant cases of affirmative action of the worst kind. Two likely killers were allowed access to military bases because one was a Muslim, and the other was black.

The next shooter will probably be a crazy lesbian or something of the kind.

So once again let us not focus on mental illness but guns. Because we want the mentally ill to use other methods of killing, like gasoline, bombs, cars, trucks, knives, bats, machetes, poison,

Saying this guy was a Buddhist is like saying Charles Manson is a Christian.

No. New York.

Alexis maintained addresses in Manhattan and Queens from the late 1990s through 2002, and is still a registered voter in New York. According to a deleted LinkedIn profile, he attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and worked for a tech firm.

After enlisting in New York, he graduated from boot camp at Great Lakes, Ill., as an airman recruit.

He was classified as an aviation electrician’s mate — a petty officer third class — and served at the Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, Texas, at the time of his discharge, the spokeswoman said.

In 2004 he was staying with some family in Seattle where he had a gun incident, shooting out the tires of some construction workers cars.

The issue appears to be mental illness again. The left will try and make it gun control.

Saying this guy was a Buddhist is like saying Charles Manson is a Christian.

Or for that matter that a lot of Muslim murderers are Muslim. No religion has a monopoly on crazy or evil.
